Although scheduled a week late, the Halloween episode of the hit medical drama, The Resident, "The Chimera," is slated to air on November 8, 2022. Quite the transition, the supernatural episode comes two weeks after Kit Voss and Randolph Bell officially tied the knot in the previous episode, "For Better or Worse."

Part of The Resident's appeal comes from the strong convictions of its dutiful doctors, nurses, surgeons, CEOs, and other helpful orderlies at Chastain Memorial Hospital, most of which convey their true personalities through pointed lines of dialogue and memorable quips.

"If It Were Easy, Everyone Would Be A Doctor."

Conrad Hawkins

Conrad wears a black shirt on The Resident

The gruff, cocksure, and extremely bright Conrad Hawkins is nothing if not intense. On The Resident, he moves up the chain of command to become a leading doctor who takes the younger Devon Pravesh under his wing and serves as his mentor.

In a piece of advice that underscores his entire philosophy, Conrad says, "If it were easy, everyone would be a doctor. Because this is the best job in the world. Despite everything. Because of everything." Conrad understands the highs and lows of the profession and the necessity to remain even-keeled, something he constantly tries to impart to his staff.

"You're Not Always Right. No One Is."

Devon Pravesh

Devon stands in the hall in The Resident

In the popular medical TV drama, Conrad always thinks his word is the gospel and tries to get his mentee Devon to practice what he preaches. However, Devon is no shrinking violet and is just as brilliant as Conrad, with a degree from Harvard to prove it. Much of the show's entertainment comes from the push and pull between the two.

In one of their hotly contested arguments, Devon stands up for himself as he often does and says, "You're not always right. No one is." Devon's entire character is predicated on sticking up for his beliefs and challenging Conrad's views.

"The Whole World Is About The Bottom Line."

Randolph Bell

Bell folds his arms by the stairs on The Resident

Due to his vast experience and calloused demeanor on the acclaimed and streamable medical drama, Chief Surgeon Randolph Bell comes off as even more cynical than Conrad, at times, often lamenting how much the medical has changed over time. When Conrad complains about the for-profit business model hospitals have adopted, Randolph sets him straight.

"The whole world is about the bottom line," Randolph tells Conrad in a quote that embodies how he feels about the venal devolution of the medical profession. Randolph's cynicism also derives from his secret hand tremors, which makes his personality even crabbier.

"You Don't Have The Right To Play God."

Nicolette Nevin

Nic uses a computer on The Resident

Nic Nevin is one of the few nurses in Chastain Memorial to push back on Conrad's unconventional medical practices, which is partially why he falls in love with her. She challenges him with her pragmatism, understanding the moral threshold for doctors and nurses. At one point, Nic says, "Medicine isn't practiced by saints, Devon. It's a business."

The line perfectly aligns with another quote Nic said to Conrad regarding Chloe's organ donation, telling the doctor, "You don't have the right to play God," after treating Micah and Dunlap. Nic is nothing if not ethical, with two quotes to prove such.

"I Will Break Your Brand-New Heart."

Mina Okafor

Mina holds a box on the elevator on The Resident

Caustic, moody, and contemptuous of everyone's opinion, Mina Okafor is a talented surgeon from Nigeria who isn't afraid to tell people the hard truth. Even when she becomes romantic with Micah after his heart operation, she can't help but give him a hard time. "I will guarantee you one thing," Mina says, "I will break your brand-new heart."

The quote perfectly encapsulates Mina's bluntness, as well as her morbid sense of humor, which is also ed by her love of Halloween. Between this quote and telling Conrad, "You had me at 'advance my career,'" it's easy to understand Mina's sardonic side.

"My Excellence Is The Best Revenge."

AJ Austin

AJ Stands in profile on The Resident

AJ Austin has overcome his volatile nature in the superb medical drama to become a kind, caring, and brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon.

When AJ is pulled over by a cop and their confrontation leads to the officer being hit by a scooter, AJ goes out of his way to nurse him back to health.

During the episode, AJ proudly declares, "My excellence is the best revenge," indicating that he's willing to atone for his poor behavior by being the best doctor he can be, putting his personal grievances with the officer behind him. It's the same sentiment AJ expresses toward his mother during her kidney failure, proving what a big heart he has.

"There's Not A Person To Save Here."

Barrett Cain

Cain uses a computer on The Resident

At first blush, neurosurgeon Barrett Cain presents himself as a superhero who can perform miracles and heal anyone, no matter their medical condition. As such, he declares "No one, and I mean no one, dies in my OR."

Unfortunately, that declarative statement couldn't be further from the truth. Rather, Barrett is a manipulative snake who is only at Chastain Memorial to earn as much money from sick patients and insurance companies as possible. So when a resident says, "But no one dies right? In your OR? You can still save her," Barrett's ice-cold response of "There's not a person to save here. Time of death 18:47," exposes his true personality.

"We Save Lives. We Just Like To Be Paid For It."'

Lane Hunter

Lane and Bell work on a patient on The Resident

Oncologist Lane Hunter also favored making as much money as possible over helping those in medical need. When she was exposed for giving her cancer patients higher chemo doses to increase their s and earn more money, she was sent to jail. Lane also purposely killed a patient and framed Nic for it, so she could stay in power and earn more money.

So when Lane states, "We save lives. We just like to be paid for it," she's candidly itting her own personal motives and priorities for being employed at Chastain Memorial. The odious doctor was later killed by a vengeful family member of the patient she killed.

I Really Love Her. I Don't Think I Realized How Much Until ..."

Irving Feldman

Irving looks after his wife on The Resident

One of the most enjoyable aspects of the somewhat underrated Fox TV show is the romantic bond between Irving and Jessica, who eventually get married on the show. Beyond being the awkward comic relief, Irving is one of the kindest and most big-hearted characters in Chastain Memorial.

In a quote that could not be more genuine, Irving raced to Jessica's bedside when she got into a near-fatal car accident. As the surgeons worked on her, Irving tearfully itted, "I really love her. I don't think I realized how much until I thought I might lose her." Who couldn't root for a guy like that?

"I Kneel For No Man."

Kit Voss

Bell and Kit hug on The Resident

Kit Voss was an orthopedic surgeon who got promoted to CEO of Chastain Hospital, largely earning the position for her unconventional methods and out-of-the-box thinking. Her romance with Randolph is no different, with their marriage proposal coming as casual and unceremoniously as possible.

When Randolph expresses that all of his assets will go to his ex-wife should he suddenly die, Kit nonchalantly says, "Okay, let's get married then," which is a halfhearted attempt at humor. But when Randolph takes her up on the offer, he says, "This is the way you ask me? No fancy dinner? No big ring? After expressing how much she loves him, Kit states, "I kneel for no man," which is precisely the sentiment that has made her such a successful surgeon and CEO.
