While best horror games you can play right now, but like most game franchises, there are older modes or features that fans would like to see return.

One gameplay mode that had extremely long-term effects on the franchise was the Randomizer mode. Debuting in Resident Evil 2's Nintendo 64 port, Randomizer mode inspired the most popular mods to come out in the Resident Evil games, even if it wasn't immediately impactful at release. Bringing this mode back officially in Resident Evil 9 would make every playthrough interesting, greatly increasing the replay value.

How Resident Evil's Randomizer Mode Started Off

An Impressive N64 Port

As one of the most impressive console ports ever made, Resident Evil 2's Nintendo 64 release defied the odds. The port was developed by Angel Studios, now known as Rockstar San Diego, developers of Red Dead Redemption. It seemed impossible for a game released on two discs to be turned into one N64 cartridge, but Angel Studios found a way. Matching the developer's pedigree, the N64 cartridge not only contains the full RE2 game but also houses additional features.

Resident Evil Has Been Ignoring This Underrated Character For Way Too Long - And RE9 Can Fix It

Plenty of Resident Evil characters come and go, but one should come back, especially as he was teased in another game's trailer but didn't appear.

New memos appear with added lore details, new costumes, but, most importantly, Randomizer mode. To unlock Randomizer mode, you simply need to beat all four main scenarios. Resident Evil 2 Classic can be a hard RE game to 100%, but unlocking the mode shouldn't pose too much of a problem. Randomizer, as the name suggests, randomizes all non-key items throughout the Police Station, Sewers, Factory, and Laboratory.

It's a lot of fun to play, even if future Randomizer mods significantly improve the gameplay formula seen here. It can get comical at times with items so out of place, like an Herb inside a locked desk drawer. Those drawers are locked for a reason, but with Randomizer mode, anything goes. This mode didn't heavily affect the Resident Evil community at the time, and it wasn't until decades later that its impact was truly felt.

Randomizer Mode Is A Blast

These Mods Are Phenomenal

Starting around 2018, Randomizer mods became increasingly popular with many Resident Evil titles, including RE1 Remake and RE4 Classic. Unlike the original Randomizer mode seen in N64 RE2, these mods randomized practically everything: enemies, rooms, what's available in the Merchant's shop, and all items. N64 RE2 only randomized non-key items, but all items are randomized here. Playthroughs are heavily luck-dependent, but it's an absolute blast.

Those bear traps will usually get you, forcing you to stay on your toes.

You're always on edge, seeing the next monster because it can be anything. RE4 Classic enemy spawns can be any monster in the game, all animals (snakes, crows), or even bear traps. Those bear traps will usually get you, forcing you to stay on your toes. The randomization always keeps the experience interesting, making these mods exceptionally popular and perfect for people waiting for RE9. With the advantage that infinite replayability offers, it would only be natural for Capcom to include a Randomizer mode officially in the next title.

Resident Evil 9 Has To Include This Mode

After 25 Years, It's Time For A Comeback

Unlike most popular mods for games, Randomizer mode was, in fact, created first as an official addition to the Resident Evil series. While the mods further improved the gameplay formula, the community didn't come up with the mode. With the popularity of these mods, however, Capcom should absolutely bring back Randomizer mode proper in Resident Evil 9.

Resident Evil 9's Rumored Open-World Is A Bigger Deal Than You Thought

Leaks have circulated the internet concerning an open world in Resident Evil 9, but this may not compromise the core mechanics of the series.

Randomizing items, enemies, and the shop would bring excitement and freshness to every playthrough, not to mention testing the limits of hardcore players if they happen to get unlucky. The mods are so much fun, and they can be one of the best ways to play the classic Resident Evil games. Randomizer mode baked into the Resident Evil 9 package would be perfect.
