After much speculation about the possibility of a Resident Evil 4 remake, at last, it has been confirmed to be ing the franchise’s other modern remakes. Set to launch on March 24th of 2023, fans are locked and loaded to experience a polished version of the beloved game, though the original still holds up decently well.
Considered one of the best horror games ever made, the GameCube exclusive defines itself not only through its great array of malicious enemies but also with its beyond plentiful weapons arsenal used to take them down in the sickest of ways. Playing through the game for the first time can be seriously intimidating, that is until the player unlocks and upgrades all the astonishing weapons once the game is completely beaten. By saving up and utilizing the proper resources, Resident Evil 4 becomes infinitely more entertaining, the game’s best firearms perfect for annihilating its toughest foes.
Killer 7
Named after the Capcom game, Killer 7, and wielding a base firepower of 25 that becomes 35 when upgraded, this weapon has no problem holding its own during encounters with the toughest of the game's many foes.
There is an unwritten law followed by fans of the Resident Evil franchise claiming that magnums should always be saved for difficult enemies and most importantly bosses since it can take some of them out without wasting must time or ammo. When used against Ramon Salazar, the Killer 7 is capable of killing him in no time compared to other beginner firearms that could be used.
Striker
Though it is the smallest shotgun in the game, the Striker is one of the greatest, having the ability to push enemies back with its impressive 100 bullet magazine once fully upgraded and an adequate damage output.
Avoiding one of survival game players’ worst habits of bolting away from danger is easy with the Striker since it is the king of crowd control and stunning foes, empowering Leon to get out of some pretty sticky situations. Unfortunately, the gun isn’t well suited for boss fights despite its many pros, bringing it down a peg when compared to other weapons.
Blacktail Handgun
As one of the best survival horror games, Resident Evil 4 is not going to hand the player the perfect lightweight firearm to pop zombie heads off right away, but the Blacktail Handgun is pretty good for one that's available by Chapter 3.
With the third-fastest fire rate in the game and damage of 4.5 that has the ability to sur the Red9 per second, this weapon is a big step up from the standard handgun. On top of this, it is surprisingly accurate, doesn’t take up much room in Leon’s attaché case, and has the fastest reload speed of any handgun found within the first playthrough.
Semi-Automatic Rifle
The game's default rifle has nothing on the beauty that is the Semi-Auto Rifle, particularly when upgraded fully since its rate of fire increases substantially, and who doesn’t love slinging a bunch of bullets towards multiple enemies at once?
In Resident Evil 4, Leon needs to be able to shoot quickly at foes from afar more than one might think, which is where this rifle comes in handy. With this weapon in hand, larger antagonists like Garrador and the Regenerator become considerably simpler as well as less of a threat to go up against, certainly earning its spot on the list.
Grenades
Famed for insta-killing any foe with exposed Las Plagas, Grenades are truly great projectiles. The three types of Grenades in the game are Regular, Incendiary, and Flash. Each is good for specific purposes and are very useful when conserving ammunition.
Incendiary grenades can burn away enemies, while the explosion of Regular grenades propel foes in the opposite direction, making them great for getting Leon out of corners. Lastly, Flash grenades should be prioritized especially for use at night when many parasites begin shooting disgustingly out of the heads of Ganados.
TMP
The TMP is the only automatic weapon in the entirety of Resident Evil 4 and is one very first firearms available when meeting the Merchant. Being a small gun, it leaves space in the player’s inventory for other weaponry to back it up, which can be more helpful than it seems. Increasing its firepower as soon as possible is an absolute must since its bullet storage and firing rate are relatively average.
A fully upgraded TMP is a force to be reckoned with, as it has enough ammunition to mow down hordes of Ganados, leaving no question as to why it is a favorite among the game’s oldest fans. Furthermore, the TMP can cause some of the funniest glitches in the series, like shooting breakable locks from the other side of doors on the GameCube version and skipping entire stages.
Red9
Purchasable in Chapter 2, the Red9 might not be the game’s most powerful weapon, but it is a classic that has sufficient accuracy and ammo once it's fully upgraded. The gun can prove to be quite the killer with its quick reload speed as well.
To have the strength of a balanced shotgun that can hit at farther lengths, the Red9 will need a stock to fortify its reliability and lessen recoil. As the largest handgun in Resident Evil 4, it can pick a respectable amount of health off bosses it wouldn’t seem to do much against, especially with the significant damage bonus it has when maxed out.
Chicago Typewriter
With unlimited ammo as well as impressive firepower, the Chicago Typewriter is perfect for shredding though Ganados without the threat of ammo depletion, significantly lightening the game’s difficulty for an easy playthrough.
Once unlocked by completing Assignment Ada (or Separate Ways in versions other than the GameCube), the gun makes defeating tricky foes a greatly satisfying breeze, especially when exacting revenge on the bosses that trampled the player one too many times during their earliest run of the game.
Infinite Rocket Launcher
Leon may have some of Resident Evil’s funniest quotes under his belt, but no one will be laughing at him when the Infinite Rocket Launcher is pointed in their face. Unlocked after beating the main game, this weapon packs much more than just a punch.
As the game-breaker it is, the launcher can guarantee an instant death to most Resident Evil 4 enemies and bosses like Ramon Salazar. The only faults of the Infinite Rocket Launcher are that it can make the game a bit too easy and cause Leon to accidentally end his life when shooting foes that are too close to him.
P.R.L. 412
If the player has proven their expertise in Resident Evil 4 by completing it on Professional difficulty and just wants to get in and get out while wrecking everything in their path, the P.R.L. 412 is the weapon for them.
Speed-running the game while wielding this exceptional firearm is almost therapeutic after defeating the game’s toughest enemies at the hardest level. Leon has never looked more powerful with the P.R.L. equipped, able to steamroll almost any foe with just one shot, aside from U3 and El Gilantes.
