Red Hood skating by as a character who thankfully hasn’t been tainted by this evil Batman’s nightmarish influence just yet. Unfortunately for Jason Todd, the cosplay community had a different idea, with a series of images giving Red Hood a Dark Multiverse makeover, creating the brand-new character of The Red Hood Who Laughs in the process.
Shared on Instagram by the cosplayer featured in the photos — Jason (@da_ancientgod) — and the photographer of the first post — Mark (@nycosplayer) — these creative talents clearly know what they’re doing when it comes to bringing this cosplay-exclusive character to life.
Dressing in the past as Red Hood in his “base” form, Jason piggybacking on this design is an inspired creative decision, with the idea of giving Red Hood a “Jokerized” redesign a good one. Meanwhile, Mark has photographed his fair share of impressive cosplayers, more recently including Red Hood, Bizarro, “Swole” Groot, and Venomized Miles Morales designs.

Jason Todd Becomes The Red Hood Who Laughs In Disturbing New Cosplay Images
Cosplay design by @da_ancientgod with photos by @nycosplayer and @siouxsie.o
Never getting The Batman Who Laughs treatment in official DC canon, Jason Todd has been haunted by his murder at the hands of the Joker for decades now, a traumatic experience that has defined his life ever since his revival. Making fans wonder what kind of messed up backstory The Red Hood Who Laughs may be hiding — whether it’s a Red Hood fully corrupted by the Joker or a version of the hero under the heavy influence of Joker’s laughing gas/venom — this cosplay proves that a Jokerized Batman should be the least of the Bat-Family’s worries.
Perfectly capturing the villainous nature of Jason’s Red Hood Who Laughs in the first set of photos, Mark expertly creates something dark and disturbing with these images by photographing Jason as he either flings playing cards at the viewer or, quite literally, looks to be losing his mind. Showcasing Joker’s green and purple color scheme mixed with Red Hood’s badass character design in a second set of photos shot by @siouxsie.o, Jason’s The Red Hood Who Laughs looks appropriately scary in all his sadistic, crowbar-wielding glory, making this homemade outfit one DC needs to pay attention to.
The Red Hood Who Laughs Cosplay Proves He Needs A Proper DC Comics Debut
Jason Todd has suffered through a lot of hardship in both his personal and professional life as a crime fighter over the years, but seeing this staple Bat-Family member succumb to the dark and get a twisted Batman Who Laughs cosplay makeover is a terrifying and ultimately disheartening direction for this troubled hero to take. Luckily for Red Hood, this The Batman Who Laughs-like redesign is exclusive to the cosplay community, yet with the way these photos turned out, it might not be long before DC finds a way to premiere their version of this character in comics sometime soon.
