Fans continue to clamor for a Red Dead Redemption's morally complex John Marston, a former member of the outlaw Van der Linde gang who is forced back into his old life of violence when his family is kidnapped and held for ransom in exchange for tracking down his former associates across the Western United States in the year 1911. Weithoff would reprise the role as John Marston in 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2, which serves as a prequel to the first Red Dead Redemption that follows his fellow gang member Arthur Morgan.

Even 12 years after he first lent his voice to John Marston in Red Dead Redemption, Rob Weithoff continues to engage with the game’s large fanbase despite not really pursuing a larger career in voice acting. He recently commented on the decline of Red Dead Online by asking the game’s disappointed player base to be patient and see what developer Rockstar creates with the resources now available to them after discontinuing the long-troubled MMO. This came not too long after Weithoff’s Red Dead Redemption 2 co-star Roger Clark commented on the death of Red Dead Online by expressing sympathy for the game’s small but ionate community.

In the same interview that he addressed the discontinuation of Red Dead Online, Rob Weithoff spoke with YouTuber potential Red Dead Redemption remaster, Wiethoff says that he would “love an opportunity to work with [Rockstar] again, whether it be remastering something or something totally different.” He also stated that he “can’t say enough good things” about Rockstar, and expressed a desire in seeing a remaster or remake of Red Dead Redemption at some point.

Red Dead Redemption Remake Is Unlikely For Now

However, while there have been rumors of Rockstar working on remasters of Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto IV for newer consoles, both these projects were reportedly canceled following the divisive launch of GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition late last year. This supposed Red Dead Redemption remaster might not be resumed anytime soon either, as Rockstar is said to be focusing its resources on developing the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6, which was reportedly a factor in the studio’s decision to drop for the aforementioned Red Dead Online.

It doesn't look like the original Red Dead Redemption is going to be ported or remastered for modern consoles like the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S in the foreseeable future, but fans hoping to jump back into John Marston’s gritty Western adventure can take solace in the fact that the talented voice behind the retired outlaw is just as excited at the idea as they are. Perhaps in time, players will be able to hear Rob Weithoff as Marston once again, either in a Red Dead Remaster or even the long hoped-for Red Dead Redemption 3.
