For players who have ever dreamed of being a ghost buster in real life, then finding the ghost in the Bayou is one activity to put high on their Red Dead Redemption 2 bucket list. There are lots of small details in Red Dead Redemption 2, and although many of them are based around progressing the game's story and contributing to the well-being of the player's in-game family, many more are simply set dressing for Rockstar's version of the Wild West.

Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption 2 may be praised for its realism and historical accuracy, but the game also manages to incorporate some supernatural elements into its gameplay. When players get tired of the story missions and want to begin exploring the world around them, they will find that there are tons of wacky and unbelievable things to do in RDR2.

One of these open world activities includes hunting for ghosts in Red Dead Redemption 2's swamp. While it requires a bit of strategy and patience, the end result is well worth it, making this one of the coolest (albeit spookiest) activities to do in the game, especially in combination with other mysterious occurrences like the appearance of RDR2's ghost train.

Finding RDR2's Ghost In The Bayou

Red Dead Redemption ghost in Bayou

When playing as Arthur Morgan in RDR2, s can find the ghost of Agnes Dowd in the Bluewater Marsh by going North of Saint Denis towards the Trapper’s Cabin. They’ll find her wandering around the Bayou, distinguishable by her loud pleas and cries. Given that ghosts tend to do their haunting at night, it’s not surprising that the ghost can only be seen during a certain time – namely between 9 pm and 3 am during foggy nights. Players may want to consider setting up a tent and waiting a while if they don’t find the ghost right away. The ghost does not always appear, however, and some players have said they had to wait days before catching a glimpse of her shadowy figure. Once the figure is spotted, players should use binoculars to zoom in and get a better view to avoid making her disappear.

Who Is Agnes Dowd In Red Dead Redemption 2?

The story of Agnes Dowd is revealed through the words of her ghost. She can be heard saying things such as “Will you miss me?” and “He never loved her!” It’s implied the young woman fell in love with a man who was involved with someone else. Even though it appears as though she eventually convinced her love interest of his feelings for her, her father refused to approve the marriage. It seems this led Agnes to take her own life, likely by hanging herself.

Players are able to find Agnes’ tombstone behind Shady Belle, which later becomes the Van der Linde gang’s hideout for a portion of the story. The grave includes Agnes’ name, age, and crimes she was accused of committing. It reads, “Agnes Dowd, aged 19, tragically took her life and others.” It is unclear who Agnes was accused of killing, but given the comments her ghost made, she may have killed her own parents or lover in a fit of anger. If players go to the spot where her ghost appears in the daytime, they’ll be able to find a noose and box beside the tree that she supposedly used to take her life.

The ghost of Agnes Dowd in the Bayou is one of Red Dead Redemption 2’s spookiest secrets, and even though it may be difficult to find, it’s well worth it in the end.
