Army of the Dead has a pretty vast mythology that never made it into the movie. There’s actually a character from Rebel Moon in the Army of the Dead animated series that we never did.

At one point in the show, they go through a portal into another dimension, and there are characters in that other dimension that they come across. In Rebel Moon, they’re in this bar, and one of the aliens is one of the characters from the animatic. So it’s definitely a shared universe.

How Army of the Dead Will Live on Through Rebel Moon

Rebel Moon’s inclusion of an Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas character is somewhat surprising given the divergence of the two plots. Rebel Moon takes place far away from Earth on a distant moon, while Army of the Dead is set in Las Vegas and stars human and zombies. With that, the inclusion of a character from Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas in Rebel Moon is somewhat surprising.

Looking into how the Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas character came about, however, this crossover makes far more sense. While Army of the Dead is grounded on Earth, the would-be animated show included “a portal into another dimension.” Said dimension could have vastly expanded the world of Army of the Dead, and clearly did so in the animated show if the series went down the path of aliens.

While it is unclear exactly how much screen time this Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas alien will get in Rebel Moon, the role is a small cameo from the sounds of it. It is possible that the alien could be introduced in the bar sequence that Snyder references and then become a larger character in Rebel Moon, but Snyder’s initial impression does not indicate as much. Audiences will soon see this crossover manifest for themselves as Rebel Moon hits Netflix to close out the year.
