Warning! This episode contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld episodes 1-3
Jedi Master Quinlan Vos, the Jedi Master who fell in love with a Sith assassin during the Clone Wars. Appearing in the series' premiere episode, Tales of the Underworld finally brings one of Quinlan Vos' most tragic moments to the screen, 10 years after it was first told on the page as his biggest story was cut from the animated Clone Wars series. This missing arc also included Asajj Ventress, setting the stage for her new journey in Tales of the Underworld.
Overall, Quinlan Vos' new Star Wars appearance is quite brief. While Tales of the Underworld does provide some new insights into the Jedi Master and his fate as an Order 66 survivor, the bulk of the show's first three episodes are focused on Ventress. Nevertheless, here's everything you need to know about Quinlan Vos, his full Star Wars history, and the potential future for the Jedi Master in the Star Wars timeline.
Quinlan Vos Was A Maverick In The Jedi Order
Known For Bending The Jedi Council's Mandates
Much like Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, Quinlan Vos was considered to be a maverick among his fellow Jedi with a penchant for bending the rules and mandates of the Jedi Council. Specializing in the galactic underworld and serving as the Jedi Order's liaison with various planetary law enforcement, Vos had vast knowledge of the dealings of major crime bosses and syndicates. Likewise, Quinlan's first and only live-action appearance was in The Phantom Menace, working undercover on Tatooine, coincidentally at the same time Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi landed on the desert world while protecting Naboo's Queen Amidala.
During the Clone Wars, Quinlan Vos ed Obi-Wan on a mission to track down Ziro the Hutt in the third season of The Clone Wars. This mission was Vos' only appearance in the Clone Wars series proper, though Revenge of the Sith confirmed that Vos was present during the Battle of Kashyyyk alongside Jedi Master Yoda and Luminara (though his scenes involving a Clone Turbo Tank were cut). Nevertheless, future canonical comics would confirm that Quinlan Voss survived the events of Order 66.
2022's Obi-Wan Kenobi series confirmed Quinlan was part of the secret network known as The Hidden Path, helping Force-sensitives and their families evade the Empire and its Imperial Inquisitors. However, an entire arc of Clone Wars episodes was meant to be dedicated to both Vos and Asajj Ventress. These were instead turned into the 2015 novel Dark Disciple following the cancellation of The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network before its sixth season on Netflix and eventually its seventh and final season on Disney+.
Quinlan Vos' Connection To Asajj Ventress And Secret Clone Wars Story Explained
A Surprise Romance and Fall To The Dark Side
In Dark Disciple, the Jedi Council makes the controversial decision to dispatch Quinlan Vos to assassinate Count Dooku, wanting to end the Clone Wars as quickly as possible. Agreeing to the mission, it was decided that Vos would seek the aid of Asajj Ventress, Dooku's former Sith assassin who had been betrayed by Dooku and had already tried to kill her old master once. Eventually gaining her trust and revealing his mission, Ventress agreed to help Quinlan learn to tap into the dark side, the only way they'd have a chance at killing Dooku.
Becoming Ventress' disciple, Quinlan and Asajj eventually fell in love with Vos intending to leave the Jedi Order once their mission was complete. Unfortunately, their attempt at killing Dooku resulted in Quinlan's capture. He was then tortured and psychologically manipulated, leading to his greater turn to the dark side as Dooku's new agent and apprentice, iral Enigma. However, Vos secretly still believed he could use his new role to kill both Dooku and his master, Darth Sidious.

Ventress tried to save Vos, though Dooku turned Quinlan against her with the dark truth that Asajj killed Vos' master when she still served the Count. Ventress later ed the Jedi and Vos was "rescued", though they failed to realize that Quinlan was Dooku's new apprentice. Once the Jedi Council finally did grow suspicious of Vos' allegiances, they again tasked him with killing Dooku to prove his loyalty, resulting in a final reckoning where Vos attempted to gain an audience with Sidious so he could kill both Sith Lords.
Quinlan's gambit ultimately failed, resulting in a lightsaber duel with Dooku that ended with Ventress sacrificing herself, taking a direct blast of the Count's Force lightning meant for Vos. Ventress returned to the light with this act, giving Vos the clarity he needed to break the dark side's hold on him and spare Dooku's life, who then escaped. In the aftermath, Vos and Kenobi took Ventress' body to her homeworld of Dathomir to rest in the traditional burial pools of the Nightsisters. Obi-Wan also advocated for Quinlan's reinstatement into the Jedi Order in light of the Council's own moral failings by sending Vos to assassinate Dooku in the first place (and the Council agreed).
Tales of the Underworld Reveals Quinlan's Fate After Order 66
Laying Ventress To Rest/Establishing The Hidden Path
Now, Tales of the Underworld brings the final pages of Dark Disciple to the screen, showing Asajj's funeral while extending the scene in some key ways. Telling Ventress that he will always love her, Quinlan and Obi-Wan turn to leave as the premiere episode confirms the book's teases that Ventress was indeed resurrected. While she could have ed her fellow Nightsisters in the afterlife, Mother Talzin told Ventress that her unique bond to Vos meant she could return to the land of the living, so long as she gave up her heart's desire (Quinlan himself).
The premiere episode also reveals that Quinlan Vos was not just a member of the Hidden Path as 2022's Obi-Wan Kenobi suggests. He actually established the entire network himself following the events of Order 66. While Vos and Ventress tragically don't reunite by the end of Asajj's Tales of the Underworld episodes, perhaps the two star-crossed galactic lovers will one day, somehow, see each other again. Even if not, here's hoping Quinlan Vos will one day get his own Star Wars spin-off, detailing his work with the Path and resisting the Empire.
