When the PS5 launches there are two new FPS games that will be available for it: a sweet-natured indie title about capturing bugs, is the polar opposite of the grisly Black Ops series, but it's still a shooter. Played from a first-person perspective, players explore an island inhabited by cute animals as they hunt bugs and contend with giant, predatory insects.

Aside from those new FPS games, the PS5 is also launching with significantly upgraded versions of classic games, including Borderlands 3, No Mans Sky Next Generation, and Observer: System Redux. Borderlands 3 on the PS5 will be free to those who own it on the PS4, and it offers 4K resolution at 60 frames per second and four-person split-screen co-op for local play.

No Mans Sky is by no means a traditional FPS, with a greater emphasis on exploration, but it has shooter elements and launches on the PS5 with an upgraded version, dubbed Next Generation. This upgraded version comes with a slew of enhancements including faster load times, 4k resolution at 60 frames per second, more detailed worlds, and 32-player multiplayer. It is also free to owners of the PS4 version.

Observer: System Redux, a harrowing cyberpunk noir game, is not free to those who owned the PS4 version but is being d as a full enhancement worthy of the extra price. The game is also not a standard FPS, lacking any combat, but the intimate perspective alongside its thrilling psychological horror make it worthy of mention.

Sony has had some bumps in the road leading up the to PS5's launch, but there is a ton of promise in the console, especially when considering its varied launch line-up. Looking at the horizon,  Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red's FPS RPG, releases in December, and Rainbow Six Siege is set to arrive on the PlayStation 5 later this year. Shooter fans have a lot to be excited about this holiday season.
