It looks like there might be yet another Horizon: Zero Dawn developer Guerrilla Games earlier this week. With the newest Sony console set for release this holiday season, rumors and official reveals surrounding new games for the system have been popping up in recent months, with plenty of eyes on Guerrilla Games given their recent success on the PS4.
Guerrilla Games’ last major title, 2017’s post-apocalyptic open-world RPG Horizon: Zero Dawn, has earned massive praise for its story, visuals, and gameplay, challenging the widespread notion that single-player based games are going out of style with the tale of a hunter named Aloy and her struggles to survive in the barren, robot-infested world of the game. A sequel has been hinted at by both a job listing Guerrilla Games posted for a Technical Vegetation Artist to work on in-game environments last November. Now, even more fuel was added to that speculation – especially in regards to the PS5.
According to GameRant, Guerrilla Games recently posted a tweet about a new job opening at their studio… only to delete it shortly afterward. Suspiciously, said tweet contained the hashtag “PS5,” leading many to believe that this new position is related to a secret game – most likely Horizon: Zero Dawn 2 – being worked on for the next-gen console, hence why it was quickly taken down.
In addition to whatever Guerrilla Games’ tweet might signify, a number of new PlayStation 5 console exclusives have been announced recently. Back in December, indie developer Counterplay Games and Dead Space this week.
While this leak from Guerrilla Games doesn’t necessarily confirm that they are working on a new PS5 game, nor if the title is the long-speculated Horizon: Zero Dawn 2, this would be a logical step for Sony as it tries to bolster its new PS5 console with must-have exclusive games. The original Horizon: Zero Dawn was a killer app for the PS4 before it was announced that it would be ported to PCs this summer, so it will be interesting to see what kind of new adventure Guerrilla Games conjures up for the PlayStation 5 should the speculation surrounding their recent job listing prove true.
