Part of it is that gritty and raw atmospheric cinematography. There is also a lot of history behind it which makes it an important addition to cinema horror history.
5 Horror Movies That Will Always Be Classics (& 5 That Aren't Scary Anymore)
I agree. Its a very subtle tone which makes it so great. Not all horror films have to be in your face about it.
10 1990s Horror Movies That Deserve A Remake

10 1990s Movie References That Don't Work With A Modern Audience
The thing about movies is they are the closest thing to a time machine. A current movie takes what's relevant in a present culture. In 20 years all the trends and nods to pop culture today will become irrelevant. Thats just how its always been since the beginning of film. This is nothing new.
10 Underrated Vampire Movies From The 2000s That You Probably Haven't Seen

10 Movies That Aren't Listed As Horror But Basically Are
Some movies may just have dark or scary moments but aren't technically a horror. Jurassic Park could be retold as a horror if different directions and choices were made. The only one I would agree with is the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. It's more a horror masked as a family film. There really is a dark undertone throughout the movie. The horror elements are very present in Willy Wonka. It's basically a cautionary tale for children styled like the original Grimm fairytales which were very dark and grim indeed.
10 Cult Classic Movies From The '70s That Aged Poorly
to the SRmember that replied, you should actually blame Brook Shields mother for allowing her to do that. Her mother was very fine with her being nude because she said it would be done in good taste. Laws weren't bestrode until later. Hence why I said movies are like time machines. A lot of movies reflect vulnerable reality. Sometimes in real events kids are nude in front of adults.
10 Cult Classic Movies From The '70s That Aged Poorly
Enough with talking about what aged poorly. Every movie is a product of its time. Its literally the closest thing to a time machine. They teach us what was happening in the world during that time period. Depending on story and directing some films may seem timeless while others may not. Every movie becomes dated at some point. Movies that are made today will go through the same thing 10 to 50 years from now.
Don't fault a movie for it being made decades ago. Know body knows what trends will take off and what the world will be like 20 years from now.
10 Cult Classic Movies From The '90s That Have Aged Poorly
Dude they are just movies. Don't take them too seriously. Acting as if people in reality don't act like the way characters do in the films. Reality check some people out there do. Movies are just cinarios created for entertainment. Plus all movies are products of their time. They are the closest thing you can get to a time machine. Don't fault a movie just because of trends during its time. Movies today will be talked about in 20 years. People will say "that's so 2020's".
