So, does the author think that stories like Kingdom Come, All Star Superman, Red Son are boring?

What is his reference? Casablanca? The Silence of The Lambs?

I agree with the author.  

One of my references for ‘Smallville’ (as Lois calls him) is Kingdom Come. In that comic, it’s clear that Superman is a symbol of hope, not of power.  

Man of Steel is a good movie, but it picked the wrong protagonist. The protagonist’s name should be Hyperion, Supreme, Plutonian, or Apollo.
