It's somewhat ironic that a fictional universe created by an atheist, one that depicts a utopian future in which all humans have renounced any faith in any God, would be populated by so many Godlike beings.
The twofold message about anything God-related seems to be (1) humanity's best hope of achieving Utopia is rejecting, as opposed to embracing, God and (2) if such a being or beings do exist, they're either uninterested in humanity or they see humans as playthings for their amusement.

When I saw the episode "A War For All Seasons", I immediately ed that Potter replaced Blake in 1952. But that episode started at the beginning of 1951, indicating that Potter was already the CO of the 4077 in 1950. That didn't leave a lot of time for Blake, Burns, Trapper, and Radar to have served at the 4077 and M*A*S*H wasn't the type of show to showcase time travel and alternate universes.
But I just shrugged it off, repeating to myself it's just a show, relaxed and watched it anyway.
