I Can't Believe Sony's Spider-Man Universe Ended Just After It Made The 1 Movie We've Been Waiting 6 Years For Possible
Sony needs to just give up its Spidey (and Spidey adjacent) live action rights. Let Marvel/Disney do what they do best...make superhero movies. Sony can keep their video game rights but for the love of all things comic book, stop making "marvel" movies.
Kraven The Hunter Review: I'm Frustrated By How Much Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Marvel Superhero Movie Squanders Its Potential
Disclaimer: I am NOT trying to sound misogynistic here, I am simply generalizing what I see in movie reviews, more specifically in action movies.
Without reading the byline until after I read the article I knew this review was written by a woman.
My general experience is that action movies reviewed by women tend to lean more toward where is the character development, what's the underlying sentiment of the story, why did they spend so much time on the action scenes.
While these are all perfectly legitimate questions, again generally speaking, these are not characteristic attributes of action movies. Action movies are more meant to be fun, a suspension of belief, and a gritty. There are obvious exceptions like the Dark Knight trilogy but the exceptions were aiming to be exceptions from the start.
Generally when reading a review from a man we are more attuned to the excitement of the movie and technical aspects of the movie. Were the actors convincing in their portrayal of the character, were the action scenes awesome without being TOO over the top (looking at you F&F franchise, ya'll lost your damn minds), how is the soundtrack, how well done is the CGI?
Also all legitimate questions, I just think men and women look for different things in movies. Action movies are generally made for men, by men. Men know what other men are going to buy. We don't need our leading man to be hot or charming, we need them to be convincing in their portrayal.
