Yeah, I'm with you. Paramount sort of forced their hands by threatening to make another film without them. At that point it may have been a bit of a arm wrestle to claim the IP. There are a lot of things that seem like didn't manifest in the film due conflicts with the film comp. Lawrence Fishburne being replaced for no really practical reason other than salary concerns. I also have a theory that Lana originally intended for Neo and Trinity to be played by other actors until they their identity but that the studio shot the idea down but I could be wrong about that. It just seemed like it would have brought back some of the intrigue of the first film.

I believe that the Miyagi storyline was originally intended to be closed by her character but I'm sure that they had to keep their options open knowing that there was a possibility that it might not happen.
