TTRPG players are not unwelcoming nor do they gate keep. More often than not, video game focused gamers gatekeep themselves by being categorically unable to read a rule book, expecting everyone else to just explain everything to them along the way, and have massive main character syndrome because that's what video games encourage. People go from video games to TTRPGs expecting to be V or The Dragonborn/Nerevarine and that's just not how it works.
