Which game should the next Resident Evil movie be based on?

Zach Cregger's in-development Resident Evil reboot is said to be taking the franchise back to its horror roots and basing itself on the "initial games" in the franchise to do so. If this means the next movie will be adapting the first or second game of the source material, I kind of think that would be a mistake, as audiences just watched an adaptation of those titles with Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, which merged both the first and second games into one film. While the argument could be made to just have the movie be based on one of those two games, I think it's ultimately better if the movie adapted something like Resident Evil 3 or Zero, which will have name familiarity for franchise fans, while also being different enough to offer something fresh for those only familiar with the films.

How do you feel about Zach Cregger rebooting the Resident Evil franchise?

It was recently revealed that Zach Cregger is gearing up to reboot the Resident Evil movie franchise, with multiple studios in an auction war to acquire the movie, and I find myself a little mixed about the idea. Cregger knocked his solo writing/directing debut out of the park with Barbarian, but that film also featured much of the comedy he had previously made a name for himself with. While the reports indicate he wants to go to the game's horror roots, just based on Barbarian, I don't know how much that will prove to be true. Plus, I was ittedly a fan of Johannes Roberts' Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, and would've welcomed a sequel to it.

Would The Rock's dream role in The Expendables franchise have been a good idea?

It was recently pointed out how, at one point in time, Dwayne Johnson expressed his dream role in The Expendables franchise to be that of the main villain in one of the films. As the franchise's future remains in doubt after Expend4bles' failure, I've seen some take to sharing their thoughts on how to fix the series, including the possibility of Johnson fulfilling his dream role, but I frankly don't see that working at this point. In one sense, it would be nice to see Johnson try something new and play a villain for a change, but on the other, after the critical failures of Red Notice and Black Adam, it feels like he still needs a big win to make his name have some weight to it again.

Do you think Labyrinth 2 without David Bowie is a good idea?

It was recently confirmed that Robert Eggers' rumored Labyrinth remake will actually be a sequel to the original film, but my mind immediately wonders if it's a good idea to produce a follow-up without David Bowie. While the fantastical world of the titular maze could be home to many other evil beings, it's hard to deny how much the original movie's impact can be accredited to Bowie's performance as Jareth. Hopefully, Eggers doesn't elect to recast the character, but instead create a villain who can live up to Bowie's charisma and menace.

Is Matt Damon right for Odysseus in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey adaptation?

Matt Damon is one of those actors I'm always going to be seated in theaters for. That being said, I don't see him as an Ancient Greek hero. It's just an assumption, as he's the only one in the cast who's the right age to play Odysseus, but Nolan's Odyssey cast feels more suited for a contemporary retelling. Ralph Fiennes' recent performance as Odysseus in The Return feels much more like what I'd imagine the character looking like, but I'm hoping I'll enjoy the movie regardless.

Almost 10 years later, what are your thoughts on Avengers: Age of Ultron?

Nearly 10 years after it was first released, I truly believe that Age of Ultron is a criminally underrated MCU movie. Ultron is one of the best villains with some of the best lines delivered by James Spader, and it's an Avengers movie where Earth's Mightiest Heroes are truly united and in their prime. I will also die on the hill that the Hulk vs Hulkbuster fight is one of the best and coolest-looking showdowns in the entire MCU.

Did Nosferatu's monster design work for you?

I really enjoyed Robert Eggers' Nosferatu, primarily for its aesthetic value. While I found practically every aspect of the production design to be compelling, Count Orlock was the one character who didn't really do it for me. I understand the goal of trying to have a more historically accurate appearance of what a vampire might have looked like, but this version of Orlock didn't represent the ways Nosferatu differs from most vampire stories, which is that Orlock isn't as imposing or menacing as Dracula. In previous iterations, I've enjoyed that he's somewhat sad and lonely in a way, whereas Dracula is depicted as being more villainous. Eggers' Orlock felt more like the latter.

Should Elizabeth Gillies play Rogue in the MCU's X-Men reboot?

Marvel Studios is working on the MCU's X-Men reboot movie. After Rogue was a fan-favorite in Disney+'s X-Men '97, I think it is likely that she will not only be in the X-Men movie but will also play a key role in the team. There are many great choices for who could play Rogue in the MCU, but I believe that Dynasty's Elizabeth Gillies, who is a popular pick among fans, is really the perfect actress for the part. Gillies has the acting skills to make Rogue charismatic and fun, as well as bring her dark past to life.

Are you looking forward to Ryan Gosling's new Sci-Fi movie?

Drew Goddard, who created Netflix's Daredevil series, is the writer of Project Hail Mary. After filming wrapped on the Sci-Fi movie, Goddard praised star Ryan Gosling, saying, "Ryan Gosling is one of the staggering talents of our time." I fully agree with that sentiment and can't wait for Gosling's movie. The actor has been part of quite a few exciting releases over the past few years, and Gosling as an astronaut in space alone trying to save the Earth in Project Hail Mary promises to be thrilling.

Who would you like to see direct Doctor Strange 3?

Benedict Cumberbatch recently offered an intriguing update on Doctor Strange 3, assuring he's still open to returning for the Marvel Cinematic Universe threequel and revealing that Marvel is just as open to discussing desired directors and storylines with him as their own planning for the franchise's future. With the door open for other directors to come onboard for the threequel, part of me would like to see Sam Raimi return, as I adore his style and think it's perfect for the Doctor Strange universe. That said, if they look elsewhere, I do also think that Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead would be a great choice, as even before their work on Loki and Moon Knight, they showed a remarkable grip on mind-bending filmmaking with The Endless and Synchronic that would also work great for the character.

Do you think an R-rated Batman movie could work?

While The Brave and the Bold may seemingly be on hiatus, I still find myself intrigued by the possibilities of what the next Batman movie could be, namely whether it could be R-rated, given Matt Reeves' The Batman was already quite dark, and The Penguin was TV-MA. Though James Gunn has kicked off the DC Universe on an R-rated note with Creature Commandos, I don't know that an R-rated Batman would work unless the story calls for it, and given The Brave and the Bold is set to be about the Bat Family, that's definitely not the right story for that mature tone.

Do you think that Wallace from Wallace & Gromit could be the villain in an film?

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl pointed out that Wallace's inventions can be dangerous. Sure, he was not the one that made the Norbots turn evil, Feathers McGraw was, but that doesn't mean that he could eventually snap and become a villain. Everyone loves Wallace, and his relationship with his dog, Gromit. That is part of the reason that these films have been around for so long, and are so well received all around the world. Wallace might be smart when it comes to inventing things, but he has a quirkiness about him as well. Still, I cannot help but think it would make for a really fun movie if he changed sides - just for a little bit - because he has all the makings of a mad scientist. It could work, should Aardman decide to switch things up.

Do you think Ke Huy Quan could make for a good villain in a movie or TV show?

Ke Huy Quan recently shared his hopes to broaden his acting horizons to that of a villain, and I actually find the idea quite enticing. One of the best tricks any actor playing a villain can pull is making their character feel sympathetic, or even affable, to watch on screen, and Quan's recent performances in Everything Everywhere All at Once and Loki show he's certainly got plenty of range in both of those fields, as well as the more dramatic.

What is the best Gerard Butler movie?

Gerard Butler has been in a plethora of films. He has proven himself to be great in several different genres - from action, to drama, to comedy. Looking back on his work, there are a lot of his movies that I revisit from time to time. The How To Train Your Dragon trilogy is a perfect trilogy, and due to my own Greek heritage, I connect with 300 on several levels. That said, my favorite film of his has to be Law Abiding Citizen. I watch this movie every couple of years and it never gets old. It is the perfect blend of action and heart, yet unafraid to include a whole lot of violence. The first time I watched this movie, I was not yet a parent, but as a parent now, I can absolutely relate to Butler's character.

Should Elrond be recast for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum?

With Hugo Weaving not interested in returning for more Lord of the Rings movies, that's at least one actor who would have to be recast for Hunt for Gollum if the story requires him. I think it would be strange to bring back Ian McKellen as Gandalf but have a different Elrond, Saruman, and other characters who won't be able to return with the same actor playing them.

Is Kingdom of Heaven an underrated movie?

I'm a long-time defender of Kingdom of Heaven, particularly the director's cut. I don't think Orlando Bloom is at his best as the lead in a movie, and I much prefer him in LOTR or Pirates, but he's able in this movie. The main appeal is the ing characters, particularly Ed Norton as Baldwin IV of Jerusalem. For fans of Gladiator, Troy, and other movies like it, this is a must-watch.

Should Andy Muschietti get another chance with the DCU's Brave and the Bold movie?

Normally, I would be against backlash against a filmmaker for making a bad movie; plenty of great directors have had them. In the case of Andy Muschietti, however, I'm more tentative about seeing him return to DC. There were aspects of The Flash movie that I liked, but there are far more that I'll never be able to explain, and his recent comments about the film showed a general lack of acknowledgment for what his work ended up being. I'd be iffy on him taking over Batman, but I'll trust the process.

Which animated film will win at the 2025 Oscars?

The Wild Robot and Inside Out 2 look to be the top 2 contenders to get this year's Oscar for Animated Film. As much as I loved the sequel to Inside Out, I think The Wild Robot has a much better chance of scoring the Oscar, especially with its 97% rating on RT as well as just how beautiful its animation is (along with a truly heartwarming story).

Are there too many trailers at movie theaters now?

On the one hand, I understand that the film industry is struggling and theaters need all the revenue they can get for playing films, but on the other, the amount of trailers these days is outrageous. Maybe it's just because I pretty much see movies weekly that I grow tired of watching the same trailers on repeat, but I wish theaters would list actual anticipated start times on tickets.

Are you happy to hear that Robert Eggers' Labyrinth movie is a sequel and not a remake?

Robert Eggers' Labyrinth movie is confirmed and while many thought the Nosferatu director was going to be remaking the classic, it is now clear that this is going to be a sequel. Honestly, once this news hit, I let out a breath of fresh air because the original is such a classic that there is no way it can be redone. David Bowie can never be replaced. I am now very intrigued to learn where this story is going to go. There are lots of possibilities and if anyone can capture the right tone, it is Robert Eggers. This beloved franchise is in good hands.
