I will give this show credit as the exception to the rule as far as effectively pulling it off, but I still wish shows/movies would knock off morally greying their villains. Unambiguous good and evil are powerful storytelling devices too, you know?
I didn't need to know that Darth Vader thinks pod racing is whizzing (or whatever the flippity-blip he said). Or that Sandman justifies his crime because he has a daughter with cancer. Or that there is no Joker?!?! I submit that while I'm not naive enough to think that this was the major problem in any of their respective cases, it's not a coincidence that all three of these either are or are among the worst performing entries in their respective franchises
I miss the days when movies were escapist fantasy, not people trying to relate to the BAD GUYS (it's right there in the name, that's what they're ASPIRING TO) so they can justify (or at least feel better about) the evil they do in their own lives
