Leaving wokeness aside, leaving aside the retooling of the story, leaving aside all the controversy; this was a remake no one asked for. All of their live action remakes were never needed. Successes like Wreck It Ralph, Frozen, and Moana show that people want to see something new. I don't know when it happened but Disney stopped telling stories and seems to have become addicted to retelling their own stories, but not quite as well. Nostalgia is great but it can't carry them. What was probably intended to be a quick cash grab has backfired. Disney needs to focus on telling stories again. People focus too much on the political side of things. The hard fact is, these movies are terrible because they're terrible.
