Modern Who has by and large been more about the companions than it is about the Doctor. Look at Rose, or Amy, or Clara, hell even River Song. The story followed them far more than the Doctor, generally, because fans are supposed to relate more to them than an impossible Time Lord. I don't think RTD is giving us anything new with Belinda. And that's okay, because I think her character is actually an improvement going into season 15.

Yes, because movies based on video game franchises have fared so well at the box office. Such hits as Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, that last Tomb Raider movie, the Final Fantasy movie that had very little at all to do with Final Fantasy...

This is a great game franchise despite the misogynist haters, so I'm hopeful this has a big box office draw, but I remain skeptical.
