I can think of 10 better ones than those, save for maybe animal house. That's culturally significant and belongs on the list. But for starters, caddyshack should be there. And for more modern, Tag. But a number of those are fairly lame.

That's ridiculous. For starters, Marty had not traveled back in time yet at the beginning of the movie. Ergo, the doc could not have known about the 1955 encounter. So no, he's not lying to Marty. Obviously, the 2nd alternative future plays out after Marty traveled back. Now if you want to make an assumption that in the second alternate time line it would have been necessary for the doc to lie, then okay.
