The Callas Cult is the most devoted in all of opera Fandom. They hated the film and they hated Jolie long before any of them had seen a single frame. Most refuse to see it and those that do see it factcheck every scene. But the opera fans who see it with an open mind have to it Angelina FAR exceeds expectation. She was wonderful. She got the Callas speaking voice and unique accent ( a little overly grand I always thought) . She transcends the ok premise. The scenes with Onasis are very compelling, some of the hallucination were strange . Obviously symbolic but what was the meaning of an orchestra playing in the rain? Jolie will surprise many people and I think it an turning point in her career. I'm excited for her. I cant think of anyone else in the role. Beautifully filmed, if relentlessly dark, in subject and visuals. Her cavernous apartment is always dark and silent except for the sound of footstep echoing through big, empty room. Not a cost atmosphere.
