I see it as a reboot of Christopher Reeve.

Man AND Superman, an idealist in a far from ideal world. His humanity is from the Kents, his powers are alien, even to himself.

If JG gets the balance right , it's the right move.

If it's good, it will stand next to the Donner original as THE Superman.
