Maybe it’s just wishful thinking on my part (if you want to call it that), but the widowed woman that Spencer finds comfort in and ends up having another son with but refuses to marry could be Elizabeth. It’s a long shot, because Elizabeth moved back to Boston but continued to write Cara. Who really knows at this point, but I wouldn’t put it past Taylor Sheridan to do that.
