See AllWhy do people blame Kevin Costner for John Dutton's exit from Yellowstone?
So many of us are not happy with the way that John Dutton's character exited the show. What still surprises me is that many still blame Costner. Personally I think it was a wrong move for them to do what they did (no spoiler) - watch to find out if you haven't yet. However, when shooting S5 Sheridan told Costner that he did not have the last scripts available to shoot at the time they had planned to complete the season shoot schedule. Then the schedule was bumped around a few times wherein Costner made himself available for these new shoot dates, until he could not continue to do so. The Yellowstone team knew he had Horizon schedule already in place. It was as if they were playing games instead of being honest. having worked in Hollywood 3+ decades, I have seen it all. How you write a character out of a show comes with politics. Not here to change your mind, hate him if you must, but unless you've spent time navigating it all, you tend to believe what they let hang out there. In other

Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2
The U.S. premiere of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter II captivated audiences at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on February 7, 2025. Held at the historic Arlington Theatre, the event featured a heartfelt introduction by Kevin Costner, setting the stage for an immersive cinematic experience.
Building on Chapter I, the film delivered gripping storytelling, evocative music, and powerful performances, earning laughter, applause, and deep emotional resonance. The struggles of women seeking a better future added depth to the narrative, shedding light on overlooked historical realities.
A standing ovation followed the screening, leading into a Q&A with Costner, costume designer Lisa Lovaas, and composer John Debney, moderated by SBIFF’s Roger Durling. Discussions explored the film’s historical accuracy, women’s resilience in the West, and the impact of its sweeping cinematography and score.
Despite its nearly three-hour runtime, Chapter II moves at a gripping pace, leaving audiences eager for the next installment. Both chapters stand as Oscar-worthy achievements, cementing Costner’s legacy in historical storytelling.

See AllHorizon: An American Saga Chapter 2 Review – 6 Hours In & Costner’s Western Still Seems Like TV [Venice]
Horizon 2: An American Saga continues seamlessly from the first installment, and I couldn’t be more excited. Contrary to some opinions, I find the scenery evocative of classic westerns, capturing the rugged beauty and untamed spirit of the era. The music is phenomenal, adding depth and atmosphere that pull you right into the story.
Speaking of the narrative, the three intertwining storylines are impressively detailed, with fully developed characters and a land that feels both wild and dangerous. Costner’s storyline, in particular, highlights the post-Civil War West as a place of chaos and near-total lawlessness, leaving settlers to fend for themselves. As the journey pushes further west, the escalating lawlessness makes you question why anyone would risk traveling through such treacherous terrain.
However, after investing nearly twelve hours into these films, my biggest worry is that Hayes Ellison, Costner’s character, might meet the same fate as he has in 13 other Costner films. It would be a tough pill to swallow if he dies, especially after such a deep narrative commitment.
I am willing to take the risk as I see these films and Costner as a Risk-take in a profession that hates to take risks. Which is why I feel critics dislike some of his films. Hate to tell them, Costner is not stepping into line any time soon. I love that about his work.
