See AllThere's One Thing About Aslan That Netflix's Narnia Movies Must Not Change, Despite Greta Gerwig's Radical Casting
What I liked about the original 2005 film was the Christian/spiritual liberty the director/designers took regarding Aslan's mane. In the film after the White Witch has it shaven off, she uses it in her battle dress as her own "mane" to show she's more powerful than Aslan (but the book never discloses this). That is a complete symbolism of how Satan is an imitator of Jesus, but he can never be Jesus or God. Having Aslan as a female is undermining the story and it's effectiveness as having a strong and comforting male protagonist. Men and women should not be competing for No. 1, because Jesus is No. 1!
