The zelda timeline was never confusing, it kinda baffles me why people think as such. There are three branches that stem off OoT and my in my opinion, these aren't really hard to understand either.

The timeline itself was based off confirmations by Aonuma and Miyamoto that often were said interviews after the release of each game. They created the downfall timeline to keep OoT as a prequel to A Link to the Past and from a writing perspective it actually makes a lot of sense.

The games are several hundreds of years apart aside from direct sequels, the previous stories often fade into legend or become forgotten so games don't need to focus too much on previous events aside from making small nods to them while making the current legend the main focus at hand.

With BotW and TotK it's confirmed to be after one of the splits but it's up to the players to decide which one fits best.

Ignore that guy. I get what you're saying to some extent. The recent games lack any kind of real story unless it's told via a flashback. It's not the same.

Not sure where they got the training wheels narrative from given the older games hardly held your hand too.

I recently helped my friend run through OoT since he stop at the GDT when he was younger and he actually beat the game yesterday. After seeing it all again, I agree. I miss when the dungeons actually had a well made running theme.
