I assumed Georgie and Reuben split their business as it expanded regionally. Georgie could have bought Reuben out. They could have become competitors or Reuben could have gone another direction.

I always believed Aimee-Leigh was the only truly righteous Gemstone with Eli coming in second and mostly because of her influence. The children were ungrateful wretches for whom religion was simply a source of wealth. The series was great and I hated to see it end.

I tend to agree the death of Eli's eternally selfish, ungrateful children would have been more satisfying than the actual ending, but sincere evangelicals and Pentecostals see redemption as their highest validation so the actual ending was more appropriate. The deceased matriarch was always the most righteous of the Gemstones with Eli second. The children, like many born to wealth and privilege, never had much touch with the real world even in the end. Gemstones was, far and away, McBride's best work. Though it could be profanely offensive and used too much gratuitous sexual humor and cursing, it never failed to deliver laugh out loud laughs and I will miss it.
