See AllI’ve Rewatched All Matrix Movies, And It’s So Obvious Why The Franchise’s Worst Movie Doesn’t Work
I read somewhere that Lana Wachowski no longer wants to tackle the nightmare of making films that visually epic and only wants to do projects that bring her joy. I can respect that. What's sad is that she was basically forced to make a 4th Matrix film or the studio would have made a worse one that—even if it had pleased the masses—may have damaged the sisters original intentions. The one aspect of the 4th film I do enjoy is that it holds the studio responsible for trying to milk every possible dollar out of art until it has no value whatsoever. The failure of the 4th film is almost perfect from that perspective. I love that she probably knows the film was going to fail and that it could only be enjoyed by the few that get the joke and care about the artists work rather than thinking as fans that we're "entitled" to be pleased by artists. If you want shallow attempts to please, you can stick to JJ Abrams movies. The Wachowski's don't care about public approval or box office results. There a couple of badass real artists! 😎

I think the issue was that she was being true to herself rather than her past self. Who You Are is not static and is ever-changing. However, the fourth film was meant to be part of a series and the majority of people had trouble accepting her change affecting the series. I think the problem we have is that she was true to herself. Lana and Lily Watchowski's TV series Sense8 is one of the greatest works of art I've ever seen. I wish she hadn't been basically forced by Fox to do another Matrix film and instead she could have just continued to make new work that was true to who she is.

You're not wrong but I think you could expand on "action" to literally all of the "visuals" of Resurrections failed. Everything from the action sequences to the frame compositions in the original trilogy are gorgeous. It wouldn't be hard to argue that the visuals are the greatest aspect of those 3 films. Resurrections however felt visually mundane and boring like watching a TV show that was shot as quickly as possible. That can be fine unless... it's a freaking Matrix movie!
