We already know about some of Spock's pain. We also know he overcame and who he grew to be. I look forward to SNW exploring the time in-between...the time of developing. The "serum" that changed a few crew into Vulcans we understand will not last forever but how did that temporary state change them individually? How did it alter their relationship to their "half Vulcan" crew mate? Did any trists happen? That looks like a psychologically satisfying episode and I look forward to it.

No. Don't save Captain Pike. Without this tragic thread there would be no meaning in Spock's heroic illegal act in TOS. Pike the first love. The first loyalty. What we are seeing in SNW is the history of that first loyalty. Don't touch this Trek tragic story line. Allow us our tears. Allow us to feel the pain with our vicarious shipmates.
