Having never played the games I can see why someone may feel the way you wrote but the hate isn't so much for Abby directly but for the loss of Joel and how it went down in the game. I would recommend you play the games both 1 (with the DLC) and part 2 as it gives a TON of context to the show. You wont have the shock value as those of us who played the games had but it will help understand. The connection to Joel and Ellie that was made in the first game was profound and one of the reasons why TLOU will likely go down as one of the best video games ever made. If you think the issues with Abby are a bit off just wait until you see what Ellie does if they stick close to the script of the games. It makes what Abby did look like child's play.
