See AllHorizon: An American Saga Chapter 2 Review – 6 Hours In & Costner’s Western Still Seems Like TV [Venice]
I love the idea of Horizon. I am a sucker for ion projects, and I love westerns. I agree with most, if not all, of this review. Here is the key reason why. "The primary function of Costner’s film is to depict, not to explore or interrogate." When I first heard of this project I was excited: he's going to do Centennial on the big screen. It's going to be epic! Upon seeing it, in the theater once then again on max, I find myself wanting to like it, a lot: wanting to appreciate it and find it compelling: wanting to it's ion and ambition.... but I, like the writer here, am forced to agree. Centennial had a very specific through-line, both in location, and a family, that connected its episodes / eras. It benefitted from its episodic focus on eras, while trusting it's audience to follow the through-line.
Horizons only throughline are Horizon pamphlets that are left very unexplained. They are just shown.' I do think, that in the end, should we get to see all four parts, it will be different to judge as a whole than a function of its parts.
butCostner needs to go from Horizon being a depiction, to it being an exploration for it to find its excellence.
