One of narutos other themes was, how parental relationships or lack there of, motivated core characters. Kakashi's character for example... as we learned, white fang(can't think of name), taught Kakashi to respect the work ethic of guy, but later informed his attitude about rules and structure due to his demise. But later because of nonparental relationship becomes hokage even though dad died a disgrace. Child/parental relationships... juxtapose against fate/lineage is one of the complexities of life that narutos story telling seem to do a great job of portraying.
