I would put Janeway or Archer, or frankly ANY of the characters on the list above Han Solo. Solo isn't a ship's captain, he's a pilot and smuggler. He doesn't have to make decisions that impact his crew beyond Chewy.

Pulling the one shot might have been a bit of a stretch. I've never heard of 'Brigsby Bear' myself, and the basic storylines aren't entirely the same. Who would think that the American one would be the darker storyline, though, with the kid being raised in a bunker by, I guess foster parents? I could totally see a struggling manga artist coming up with a story about a couple who had never gotten their break in either the manga or anime industries making a homemade anime for their kid and the kid only finding out it wasn't a show everyone saw after they died in a tragic accident. That's classic self insert defeatist authorship!
