I am an SAG-AFTRA Actor (Paul D'Elia IMDb) and portrayed a featured Petitioner in Spielberg's LINCOLN. An all around wonderful and magical experience, I was particularly struck by Mr. Spielberg's hands-on approach as a Director, as well as his kindness, generosity and patience with everybody involved on set. Between set-ups, and waiting to address President Lincoln with my request, I noticed Daniel Day Lewis off to the side on his knees praying. My first thought was that he was actually petitioning the Lord that he would do well in the scene. Later on it dawned on me that such was not the case at all; he was in character as Mr. Lincoln praying that he would capably address the concerns and requests of the many Petitioners in his capacity as President! In a unique and special moment I witnessed the essence of what it meant to be a true Method Actor in Daniel Day Lewis as Lincoln...
