That's a good point about wolverine. But I'd be willing to bet if there was a big uproar about it, it wouldn't be turned into a political issue. Scarlet Johansson playing Major Motoko Kusanaki litterally let to petitions for a Japanese actress and nobody made it an anti-white or anti-jewish race issue. Many times when they replace white cartoon/anime characters with an actor/actress that doesn't fit the description at all the real fans are understandably upset and there's only backlash about the backlash if the actor/actress happens to be black. For example, Starfire who is tall, slim, orange skin, long straight red hair being played by an actress that's short, thick, dark skin and curly hair. Google "red head the black character" and dozens of examples come up. In contrast, no complaints about Zoe Saldana playing Gamora in Gardians of the Galaxy because it was done right.

I hate that they always portray it like a race issue. It's an accuracy issue. A live action character is supposed to resemble the animated character as much as possible. You don't get a short person to play a tall character. You don't get a skinny person to play a heavy set character unless they're putting on weight for the roll. A Korean actor played the Japanese lead character in Ninja Assassin because he can for Japanese. Scarlett Johanson got backlash for Ghost in the Shell. She's a beautiful great actress but can't for Japanese. Likewise they need to stop replacing blonde and redhead white characters with black people then making it a political race issue when fans are upset about inaccuracy.
