Rumors are swirling that Ubisoft Forward event. The Prince of Persia franchise has been described as "on pause" by top brass at Ubisoft. Indeed, the franchise hasn't seen a unique console game since the movie tie-in release Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands back in 2010. One of the most popular of Ubisoft's titles in the PlayStation 2 generation, the series was eventually replaced by Assassin's Creed, which started life as a spin-off to the desert-filled action-adventure in its earliest iterations.

Already confirmed for the September 10th Ubisoft Forward event is a look at Immortals: Fenyx Rising, a game that has been the subject of several prominent leaks since its reveal as Gods & Monsters at E3 2019. Viewers can also expect more on Watch Dogs Legion, as well as information on further additions to Hyper Scape and Rainbow Six Siege, and pre-show updates about new content for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint and Brawhalla. On top of all that, Ubisoft has promised some unannounced surprises, and all signs point to one of those being a Prince of Persia remake.

Video Games Chronicle has gathered the full details of this developing story. Back in August, gamers on social media noticed a listing for a new Prince of Persia on a retailer's website. The listing wasn't up for long, but it was enough to get the internet talking, and that includes Bloomberg's Jason Schreier. On his Triple Click podcast, Schreier casually mentioned the Prince of Persia remake as a given for the Ubisoft Forward event, saying that Ubisoft was going to announce "a bunch of games," as VGC reports.

Schreier is known to be a reliable source when it comes to rumors and leaks from unreleased games, confirming everything from the new BioShock game currently in the works to the games WB had in the works for its scrapped E3 press conference this year. Schreier even previously confirmed this new Prince of Persia when it originally leaked, joking that "retailers sure love leaking Ubisoft's surprise announcements." Although it's still a rumor, Schreier's track record and the store page make a new Prince of Persia remake very close to an inevitability.

If Prince of Persia does once again grace game consoles in the near future, there would likely be quite a few changes to the formula. Assassin's Creed has fully squeezed the blood from the stone that is platform-heavy action, moving on to an open-world formula that's worked well in the past two iterations. It's still not clear whether the Prince will follow the open-world route or star in a throwback to the glory days of the Prince of Persia series. If the rumors about its reveals turn out to be true, the gaming public will only need to wait a few more days to find out.
