While the future of the franchise remains unknown, Alice Braga is weighing in on a potential Predators 2. Braga starred in the 2010 film as a sniper from the Israel Defense Forces who finds herself on an alien planet with others who have no memory of their arrival, and find themselves hunted by the eponymous killers. Produced by Rodriguez, Predators garnered mixed-to-positive reviews and was a modest box office success, paving the way to explore a direct sequel.
During Screen Rant's exclusive interview with the star for Hypnotic, Alice Braga was asked if her and director Robert Rodriguez discussed the possibility of a Predators 2. Though the star said they only discussed the film through a "nostalgic" lens, Braga expressed her willingness to return for the scrapped sequel, namely if Rodriguez was at the helm instead of just producing. See what Braga shared in the quotes and clip below:
I would love to do it with him directing, it would be fun! [Chuckles] No, we talked a lot about the time that we did Predators, but we didn't talk about the future of, "Let's do something together." But it was funny, because we shot Predators at Troublemaker Studios on a bunch of locations that we actually filmed a few things of Hypnotic for, so it was very nostalgic to come back many years later to the same set, to a bunch of the same crew that did Predators, because Robert's family is in Austin, Texas, it's his gang, and his crew. So it was really special to be back there with Predators memories. But yeah, if he's back doing and wants me, I would love it.
How (& Why) A Predators 2 Can Still Happen
Around the time of the film's release, both Rodriguez and director Nimród Antal had discussed the possibility of a direct sequel to Predators, teasing muliple story paths to explore, including even a prequel focused on Laurence Fishburne's character and how he survived on the Predator Planet for so long. Rodriguez had indicated too that the studio, previously 20th Century Fox, would be keen on a follow-up, while star Adrien Brody expressed an interest in continuing his character's emotional arc.
Though the studio ultimately went in a different direction with the next two chapters with Shane Black's The Predator and Dan Trachtenberg's Prey, this doesn't mean the door is entirely closed for Rodriguez's Predators 2 to still be made in the future. The former film, which was considered a critical disappointment, was said to take place before the events of 2010's Predators while the latter was a prequel for every film before it, being set in the early 18th century on the Great Plains.
While some have called for time travel to factor in to the franchise to bring some of its heroes together, the best path forward for Rodriguez's Predators 2 to happen would be a straightforward story akin to last year's Prey, maintaining the survivalist thrills of both the 2010 film and 1987 original. Additionally, with Rodriguez's continued relationship at the studio through James Cameron and the highly campaigned Alita: Battle Angel 2, it would be interesting to see a return to the Predator Planet and have Braga and Brody's heroes back on screen.
