Everything fans know about Power Rangers originated with the ‘90s live-action series Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, but a newly revealed ultimate weapon has emerged within the comic book continuation of the series that has completely redefined the lore of the entire franchise. The Morphin Grid is the source of the Rangers’ power as well as being the origin of all life in the universe, and perhaps even the multiverse. While in the past it has been viewed as little more than an ambiguous energy source, it has been revealed that the Morphin Grid has the same amount of potential for evil as it does for good.

In Power Rangers Universe #3 by Nicole Andelfinger and Simone Ragazzoni, fans are taken to a time before the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers got their powers as the origin of the Phantom Ranger is fully explored. In this issue, the Rangers of this era are battling against a demonic entity known as Dark Specter who is hell-bent on taking control of an arch that would grant him access to the Morphin Grid and the ability to conquer the universe.

While the Morphin Grid is the source of the Power Rangers’ power, it also takes its toll on them whenever they use it. After battling the forces of the Dark Specter, the Rangers are in pretty bad shape and need time to recover, something that has rarely been shown in the past. The raw, perhaps multiversal power of the Morphin Grid is seemingly as destructive as it is empowering, and given the fact that the source can be accessed not just by the Rangers but other, more malevolent forces, makes the Morphin Grid that much more dangerous.

Power Rangers' ultimate weapon is way too dangerous.

If the Dark Specter is able to open up an arch portal into the Morphin Grid and unleash the raw, god-tiered energy within, then the villain would potentially be able to wipe out all of existence. This newfound danger associated with the Morphin Grid implies that anytime there are Rangers who have access to that power, the universe is in more danger than it would be without its cosmic protectors as their existence makes the godlike energy more accessible to those with the know-how and willpower to reach it, no matter if they are heroes or villains.

This series is interesting as it challenges everything fans thought they knew about Power Rangers lore by delving deeper into the mysteries surrounding not just the Phantom Ranger, but the entire Morphin Grid. Before, the Morphin Grid was purely seen as a force for good that empowered the Rangers to stop whatever villainy crossed their path, but now it has been revealed that the Power Rangers’ ultimate weapon can be used against the Rangers and even the entire universe.
