Warning: Spoilers for Power Rangers Prime #5!The Power Rangers franchise finally has its own Wolverine. Previously, the closest that the Power Rangers franchise has ever come to having a Wolverine-like character was when the pet alien Yale became the Omega Ranger, but that Ranger mostly sported the physical characteristics of the X-Men standout instead of actual personality traits.

Meanwhile, Yellow Ranger Valentina is Wolverine personified, particularly in Power Rangers Prime #5 by Melissa Flores and Michael YG, where she has an in-team outburst that echoes many of the outbursts that Logan has had as an X-Man. Worse, she outright attacks Rita Repulsa, who isn't just a fellow teammate (technically speaking), but the leader in charge of the Power Rangers.

Valentina is full of as much fire and rage as Wolverine once was, but her temperament could sabotage the Power Rangers in the long run just as the team is building steam.

Samurai Red Ranger Lauren Shiba and Valentina discuss receiving raw powers in Power Rangers Prime #3

Wolverine's time with the X-Men was often defined by tension. Valentina is proving to be on a similar trajectory with the Power Rangers. Her allegiances to the team may always be called into question considering that she's dating a member of the VR Troopers, who are currently enemies to the Power Rangers. However, one prior conversation with the Red Ranger foreshadowed Valentina's tensions with her team.

In Power Rangers Prime #3, while Lauren expresses wanting to regain her powers for nobler intentions to help people, Valentina strongly implies that she wants the power strictly to become powerful. It's a brutally honest answer that paints her as a contrarian in the same way that Wolverine often did in his heyday with the X-Men. In the same manner, Wolverine would often alienate himself from his teammates by having conflicting views and certainly a different code when the rest of the X-Men weren't as violent or as prone to killing as Wolverine.

She Needs to Change Her Ways

In more recent years, though, Wolverine has matured from his more volatile, younger days with the X-Men. Today's comics from Marvel depict Wolvie as being as violent as ever, but wiser about when he chooses to inflict it. He's re-modeled himself as a teacher, professor, and mentor to the next generation of mutants. Wolverine's journey included years of character growth before he became the father figure he is today, but Valentina may not have as much time to grow.

Valentina's tensions with her teammates are already starting to peak following their first battle as a team. The reason why Wolverine as a character has carried so much longevity with the X-Men is because he recognized his flaws as a character and sought to change. The Yellow Power Ranger could experience a compelling character journey as she unlearns her worst traits and ideologies, but only if she learns. Valentina could become one of the best Power Rangers, just as Wolverine has become one of the best X-Men, but only depending on the course of her hero's journey going forward.
