Summary

  • Power Rangers Cosmic Fury introduces a unique lineup of Red, Blue, Gold, Black, Green, and Orange Rangers.
  • The addition of the Orange Ranger to Cosmic Fury makes it the franchise's first, breaking traditional color schemes.
  • Future appearances of the Cosmic Fury team are uncertain due to speculation of a Power Rangers reboot.

Power Rangers teams usually consist of five Rangers that later welcome a sixth member, although some started with just three characters. Although Mighty Morphin will always be the benchmark for Power Rangers, the show has seen dozens of color combinations throughout its 30-season run.

Almost every Power Rangers show followed their Super Sentai counterpart very closely regarding costumes, colors, and Zords. There were, however, some exceptions. For example, Lightspeed Rescue included an original Silver Ranger known as end of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, the show had a new lineup of Rangers spotting a unique color scheme.

Power Rangers’ Latest Lineup Has A Never-Before-Used Color Scheme

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury ends with the formation of a new team consisting of Red Ranger Amelia, Green Ranger Izzy, Black Ranger Javi, Gold Ranger Aiyon, Blue Ranger Ollie, and Orange Ranger Fern. While most of these colors are quite common in Power Rangers, the franchise had never seen a lineup consisting of Red, Blue, Gold, Black, Green, and Orange Rangers. Cosmic Fury’s final team was the first since the inception of the show not to have either a Pink or Yellow Ranger, which itself made it very unique compared to previous seasons, including Dino Fury.

It’s safe to say say Cosmic Fury was the most unique Power Rangers season in of lineup and colors.

Power Rangers Dino Fury did not have a Yellow Ranger, so it was not surprising that Cosmic Fury did not have one either. However, even though there was a Pink Ranger in Dino Fury, this iconic Ranger color was not part of Cosmic Fury’s final roster of heroes. That is because Amelia, the Dino Fury Pink Ranger, became the new Red Ranger. Interestingly, Cosmic Fury used original costumes and went with its own color scheme.

Some Power Rangers colors, such as Red and Blue, appear in virtually every season. Colors like Pink and Yellow, although slightly less consistent, also appear quite often. Power Rangers colors like Purple and Gold are far less common, although most newer seasons have featured a Gold Ranger. The final version of the Cosmic Fury team brings an interesting combination of colors for a team that also had a “Champaigne Ranger,” an extra Blue Ranger, and the Dark Ranger throughout the series. It’s safe to say say Cosmic Fury was the most unique Power Rangers season in of lineup and colors.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury’s Orange Ranger Is The Franchise’s First

Cosmic Fury’s Fern ends the season as the Orange Ranger

Even if Cosmic Fury’s team had a more traditional set of colors, it would still be a never-before-seen Power Rangers lineup because of the Orange Ranger. Cosmic Fury featured the first Orange Ranger in the history of the franchise, and it could not have happened in a better time. Considering that Power Rangers Cosmic Fury celebrated the saga’s 30th anniversary and even served as a finale for the show, including a never-before-used color was a great decision. For decades, viewers were hoping Power Rangers would have an Orange Ranger, either through Sentai adaptations or by creating an original Ranger.

Power Rangers had played with the idea of an Orange Ranger before, but it had never actually happened on the TV show. The S.P.D. Orange Ranger only appeared in a comedic dream sequence, whereas the Kat Ranger was never officially referred to as Orange Ranger. Fortunately, Cosmic Fury made it clear that Fern was the Orange Ranger, adding a new color to the franchise’s legacy 30 years after Power Rangers premiered. Fern first appeared in Dino Fury, during which she and Green Ranger Izzy began to date, and became the Orange Ranger in Cosmic Fury episode 7.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury gave the Dino Fury characters new powers and delivered a new version of an already fan-favorite team. This raises the question of whether the Cosmic Fury Rangers will ever appear again. As of the writing of this article, the next Power Rangers show remains to be announced. With no updates regarding the next Super Sentai adaptation, Power Rangers’ next show might be a reboot. Cosmic Fury only used Sentai footage for the Zord and Megazord battles, further suggesting Power Rangers is moving away from Sentai adaptations.

If the next Power Rangers is indeed a reboot or at least something set in a different continuity from the previous shows, it is unlikely the Cosmic Fury team will ever appear again. Previous Rangers returning for Power Rangers chronology. Power Rangers moving away from Sentai, if it happens, would certainly mark the beginning of a new continuity entirely.

What The New Power Rangers Show’s Color Scheme Should Be

A Power Rangers reboot should go for a more traditional color scheme

Assuming Power Rangers’ next show after Cosmic Fury is a reboot, it should have a more traditional color scheme featuring the most iconic Ranger colors. Reusing the Mighty Morphin lineup – Red, Blue, Black, Pink, Yellow, and Green – would be a great way of combining nostalgia with something new. Even if the next series has nothing to do with Mighty Morphin, using the colors from the original show could help this potential reboot in of connecting with old and new viewers. That is not to say, however, that Power Rangers should rely on MMPR only.

Part of the charm of the Super Sentai and Power Rangers franchises is the amount of possibilities they offer, from the lineup of heroes to the costumes and the Zords. Not many superhero universes are as colorful and imaginative as Super Sentai, and this is something Power Rangers should never lose track of even if it no longer adapts to the Japanese series. Likewise, even if the saga changes direction going forward, there will hopefully be opportunities from previous Rangers like the ones from Cosmic Fury to show up again.
