Power Rangers universe has been built around the original series. From characters like Jason and Tommy showing up in other seasons even after the Zordon Era had ended to all the comics, video games, and movies about the original team, Power Rangers is synonymous with MMPR for better or worse.

There are a lot of Power Rangers show at Disney+ should be a reimagining of the original series.

Disney+’s Power Rangers show is a great chance to reinvent the franchise, but that does not mean that it cannot include new versions of classic characters. Power Rangers has been around for 32 years, yet we only ever had one reboot of Mighty Morphin – the 2017 film. Considering that the 2017 Power Rangers reboot was a box office failure that killed any chances of it becoming a movie franchise, we never got to see what this new take on MMPR would have looked like in the long run.

There are technically two Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movies – the 1995 film and the 2017 reboot – although none of them are canon to the show.

In other words, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers still has a lot of untapped potential despite having been the bread and butter of the franchise since the 1990s. There is a lot that can be done with Mighty Morphin, especially in a different format with a bigger budget and more mature stories. The best example of this untapped potential is the BOOM! Studios comics, most of which are set in the Mighty Morphin era. The comics have shown that even the oldest Power Rangers season can be reinvented in fun, exciting ways.

A Well-Done Mighty Morphin Reboot Could Be Very Successful

Apart from the 2017 film, which many will agree was a very interesting take on Power Rangers, Mighty Morphin has yet to have a proper modern reboot. The vast majority of the Power Rangers seasons have taken place in the same continuity, the only two exceptions being R.P.M. and Dino Charge due to the inconsistencies it would cause. This is why having a reboot set in a brand-new universe would be so exciting, even if it’s MMPR again.

It may seem paradoxical that the most overused Power Rangers season is also the one with the most untapped potential. From the personalities and the inner struggles of the “five teenagers with attitude” to all the worldbuilding surrounding Zordon and Rita Repulsa, the original Power Rangers show has more than enough ingredients to make a great modern reboot.

Power Rangers is a long-running multimedia franchise that debuted in 1993 with the TV series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Created by Haim Saban and adapted from the Japanese Super Sentai series, Power Rangers became a cultural phenomenon by combining action-packed footage from Super Sentai with new scenes featuring American actors. The franchise follows teams of young heroes who transform into Power Rangers to battle various villains, using martial arts, special powers, and giant mechas called Zords. Over the decades, the franchise has expanded into multiple TV series, films, comics, video games, and merchandise, becoming one of the most successful children's franchises in the world.
