Summary

  • Purple is one of the least common Power Rangers colors, appearing in only 3 out of 23 teams.
  • White and Silver Rangers are also relatively rare, each appearing in only 8 and 9 teams respectively.
  • The most common Power Rangers colors are Red and Blue, both appearing in all 23 teams.

The most common Power Rangers chronology includes 23 teams featured across 30 seasons. It must be noted that some teams went through variations and even received different names, such as Megaforce becoming Super Megaforce. Others, however, changed their set of powers entirely and also changed colors in the process, such as Turbo going In Space or Dino Fury becoming Cosmic Fury. Therefore, counting Ranger colors can be tricky.

The color scheme of each Power Rangers series comes from the shows, although there are a few exceptions like Lightspeed Rescue’s Titanium Ranger or Cosmic Fury’s all-original set of costumes. The success of Mighty Morphin, which was based on Zyuranger, made it so that some colors became much more iconic than others. Only two Ranger colors have been featured in all 23 times, whereas others have appeared in less than 10 seasons.

10 Purple Ranger (3 Teams)

Albert the Purple Dino Charge Ranger

Purple is one of the least common Power Rangers colors, having appeared in just three Rangers teams – and that considering a redeemed Dino Fury Void Knight as a purple Ranger. The Jungle Fury and Dino Charge seasons had proper purple Rangers as part of their main lineup, but most Power Rangers shows never used this color. Not even the comics, which usually feature color and costume combinations that never appeared on the show, have featured a lot of Purple Rangers.

9 White Ranger (8 Teams)

White is missing from 15 Power Rangers teams

Defining the White Ranger color in Power Rangers can be tricky, as there are also Silver Rangers in the franchise. Additionally, Rangers like Wild Force Alyssa and Ninja Steel Hayley had bits of pink combined with their white costumes. Regardless, despite being the color of one of Power Rangers’ most nostalgic Rangers – Mighty Morphin White – this color has only appeared in eight teams across 30 seasons. There are actually more Silver than White Rangers in the franchise. The most recent example of a White Ranger was Ninja Steel’s Hayley, assuming Cosmic Fury’s Zenith form is a color of its own.

8 Silver Ranger (9 Teams)

Silver is missing from 14 Power Rangers teams

Power Rangers Lightspeed's Titanium Ranger

Power Rangers in Space’s Zhane was the show’s first Silver Ranger, a fitting color for a sixth or extra Ranger. Since then, eight other Power Rangers teams have featured Silver heroes, with the color being absent from 14 other lineups. Notable examples of Silver Rangers include the Titanium Ranger, the Lunar Wolf Ranger, and the Megaforce Silver Ranger, all of whom were also six Rangers. There has never been a core Silver Ranger on the show, meaning no Power Rangers team ever featured the color silver in its original lineup of heroes.

7 Gold Ranger (9 Teams)

Gold is missing from 14 Power Rangers teams

Similar to Silver Rangers, Gold Rangers are often extra of their respective teams. The first example of a Gold Ranger was Zeo’s Trey of Triforia, who later ed down his powers to Jason Lee Scott. It must be noticed that Zeo Gold’s color scheme could not be more different from Dino Fury Gold’s costume, and that is because there was never a pattern for Gold Rangers in Power Rangers. The color gold itself is usually combined with other colors, such as blue, black, and yellow, to create very unique Ranger costumes.

6 Pink Ranger (15 Teams)

Pink is missing from eight Power Rangers teams

The Time Force Pink Ranger morphing

One of the original five Ranger colors, pink has been used in 15 different Power Rangers teams. Initially, almost every Ranger team would have a Pink Ranger, from Kimberly in Mighty Morphin to Jen in Time Force – the only exception being the Alien Rangers. This changed with Wild Force, Ninja Storm, and Dino Thunder, none of which had Pink Rangers. The color would become relatively common again starting with R.P.M. and would continue to appear in almost every show. Interestingly, pink was missing from Cosmic Fury because the Dino Fury Pink Ranger became the new Red Ranger.

5 Black Ranger (15 Teams)

Black is missing from eight Power Rangers teams

Similarly to pink, the color black was part of Power Rangers’ original lineup in Mighty Morphin and has been used in most of the saga’s teams. Power Rangers seasons with Black Rangers usually do not have a Green Ranger as part of the core team and vice versa, as seen with Zeo, Turbo, In Space, Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, Wild Force, and more. That said, Turbo’s Phantom Ranger and Lost Galaxy’s Magna Defender are considered Black Rangers and are included in this final number of 15 team appearances. Cosmic Fury’s Javi is the most recent Black Ranger.

4 Green Ranger (16 Teams)

Green is missing from seven Power Rangers teams

Although the Green Ranger is commonly associated with Mighty Morphin’s Tommy Oliver, only two Green Rangers have been sixth Rangers – Tommy and Ninja Storm’s Cam. All of the other Green Rangers in the franchise were core of their teams, which shows how common this color became after the original show. The Black and Green Ranger positions are often tied to each other, such as when Adam went from Mighty Morphin Black to Zeo Green, or when Carlos went from Turbo Green to In Space Black. Cosmic Fury’s Izzy is Power Rangers’ most recent Green Ranger.

Jake Holling is the Megaforce Black Ranger but becomes the Super Megaforce Green Ranger because the show adapted two different Super Sentai series.

3 Yellow Ranger (20 Teams)

Yellow is missing from two Power Rangers teams

Dino Charge, Dino Fury, and Cosmic Fury are the only Power Rangers teams to not have featured a Yellow Ranger. All other seasons included a Yellow Ranger, from Trini in Mighty Morphin to Zoey in Beast Morphers. Considering how iconic the color Yellow is to Power Rangers, it is somewhat disappointing that it was not featured in Cosmic Fury. That said, having Gold and Yellow Rangers in the same team can be difficult, especially because a lot of Gold Rangers look like they have yellow costumes depending on the lighting.

2 Blue Ranger (23 Teams)

Blue appeared in all Power Rangers teams

Blue is one of two Ranger colors to have appeared in all Power Rangers teams, from Mighty Morphin to Cosmic Fury. The newest Power Rangers season actually included two Blue Rangers – Billy from the original series and Ollie, the latter of which was evil for most of the show. There have also been variations of the color blue on the show, such as the Navy Blue Ranger in Ninja Storm, which also included a standard Blue Ranger. Billy’s legacy made it so that Blue Rangers are usually the tech experts of their teams, although this isn’t a rule.

1 Red Ranger (23 Teams)

Red appeared in all Power Rangers teams

Red is the most iconic of the Ranger colors, not just because it has appeared in every season but also because it is usually the color worn by the team leader. Only a couple of Power Rangers teams were not led by Red Rangers, such as the second generation of Mighty Morphin heroes and the temporary lineups of the Time Force and Wild Force Rangers. Between the original Red Ranger Jason Lee Scott and Cosmic Fury Amelia Jones, being a Red Ranger is not easy and comes with a lot of pressure.
