The most iconic romance that never happened on Power Rangers finally became reality, thanks to the comics. Romance has always been an underrated part of the franchise’s appeal. While Mighty Morphin fans tuned in for giant Zords and monster battles, many also returned each week to watch Tommy’s love story unfold, first with Kimberly, then later with Kat. After all, every great story needs a touch of romance.
One romance that never had the chance to blossom on the TV series was between Adam and Tanya, the Green/Black and Yellow Rangers. However, this was finally addressed in Power Rangers: Across the Morphin Grid #1, a story written by Nakia Burrise, the actress who played Tanya.
The one-shot marks a return to form with Power Rangers actors stepping in to tell new stories for their characters. Burrise gives fans a long-overdue update on Tanya, including the romance that never was. While the original series hinted at a possible connection, it never fully developed. Thankfully, the comics give Tanya and Adam the second chance they deserved.
Power Rangers Finally Fixes a 27-Year-Old Mistake
"Tanya's Heavy Metal Rescue" by Nakia Burrise, JD Sutphin, Tango, JP Jordan, and Ed Dukeshire for Power Rangers: Across the Morphin Grid #1
Adam Park originally ed the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers team in the show's second season, replacing Zack Taylor as the Black Ranger once Zack, Trini Kwan, and Jason Lee Scott all left for the Peace Corps. He'd effectively become the franchise's second Black Ranger. Tanya Sloan ed the cast during the show's forgotten Alien Rangers season. When Aisha Campbell, the second Yellow Ranger, chose to stay in Africa to help combat a spreading illness, she ed her mantle onto Tanya. This effectively made Tanya the third Yellow Ranger in the series’ continuity.
After becoming the Zeo team's Yellow and Green Power Rangers, Tanya and Adam are frequently seen onscreen together, to the point that Adam even trains Tanya on how to be a martial arts fighter. Their chemistry simmered onscreen for both Zeo and Turbo's seasons whenever they worked together. Their chemistry sparked speculation among fans that they were meant to be a couple. While the actors, Johnny Yong Bosch and Nakia Burrise have both spoken about their romance potential at conventions like Power Morphicon, it remained unclear why the show never pulled the trigger after hinting at a relationship.
Some have speculated that producers preferred to bring more focus to Tommy Oliver's growing relationship with Katherine "Kat" Hillard, a romance that still remains canon today, and Adam and Tanya's endgame suffered as a result. This is merely speculation, though. Yet, most fans agree that it was a 27-year-old mistake involving the Yellow Ranger that was in need of correcting. Over the years, fans have kept the spark of Adam and Tanya’s unspoken bond alive through fan-made videos, fan fiction, and ongoing theories. Now, Nakia Burrise brings that long-teased romance back to life, rekindling the spirit of the couple within the Power Rangers universe.
Tanya & Adam’s Power Rangers Romance Finally Becomes Canon
After Decades of Teasing, This Power Rangers Couple Is Finally Official
The Power Rangers comic reveals that Tanya now owns her own heavy metal music company, Sloan Productions. While having a typical day at the office, she receives a distress call from Alpha 5, informing her that Adam and Aisha have been attacked. Tanya morphs into Zeo Ranger II, Yellow, to rescue them from their captors: an adult version of Prince Gasket from the Machine Empire, Zeo's primary antagonists. Having inherited King Mondo's empire, Gasket injures Aisha, leaving her at the S.P.A. Command Center, and kidnaps Adam in hopes of torturing him to discover the location of the Zeo Crystals.

10 Ways Boom! Studios Power Rangers Reinvented Classic TV Characters
BOOM! Studios Power Rangers has not only recontextualized classic characters from the show, but in many cases, reinvented them completely.
Before things worsen, Tanya defeats King Gasket in a final confrontation to rescue Adam. The two embrace on the last page, where Adam asks Tanya to marry him, confirming that they continue their relationship long after their departures from the franchise. The Power Rangers: Once a Ranger Netflix special shows that Adam ed S.P.A. with Aisha, but it never updates fans on Tanya's life after her time as a Ranger. The comic finally provides an answer, making it feel all the more authentic coming from the actor who portrayed Tanya.
Power Rangers Comics Finally Give Fans the Closure the Show Couldn't
Long-Teased Romances and Untold Stories Resurrected for 90s Kids and Beyond
Nostalgic 90s kids love Power Rangers, but as adults, everyone can agree that the show was never perfect. The fact that the series never followed up on a romance that was continually teased is a prime example of this. Power Rangers was, at its core, a kids' show that was never heavy on story because the creative team knew that children either wouldn't notice or wouldn't care. The comics gave older viewers closure that the show never could. Following up on Tanya and Adam is just one example. Another is how the comics resolve plot holes from Kat and Tommy's relationship that the franchise never addressed.
The comics bring to life romances that the original Power Rangers show only hinted at but never fully explored. For example, the comics delve into Adam's relationships with Rocky and even Scorpina, storylines that would have been impossible on a kids' show in the '90s. While Power Rangers was limited in its ability to tell certain stories back then, the comics have stepped in to fill the gaps. They are now expanding on dropped plotlines and romances that long-time fans have been yearning for since the '90s. For Adam and Tanya shippers, the Power Rangers comics have been a much-needed gift.
