The new trailer for the fourth chapter of Poppy Playtime has just been revealed, and it reveals the deceptively adorable villain of the next chapter, Yarnaby. A teaser of the next chapter was shared last month showing a graveyard of toys, with a mysterious smiling sheep on the thumbnail. However, the official Chapter 4 trailer shows that the real threat is much cuter and even more terrifying.

The trailer, released by developers Mob Entertainment on their YouTube channel, shows the player moving through the "bowels of the Playtime Co. factory," before being confronted by the chapter's new villain, a cuddly lion-like creature with a round face, dopey smile, huge round eyes, and a colorful yarn mane around its face.

It actually looks incredibly cute, until, that is, its face opens up to reveal a terrifying maw with two sets of teeth. The design is the perfect intersection between sweet and horrifying and many fans are praising Mob Entertainment for Yarnaby's striking design and the developers' ability to create tension and dread without relying on jump scares.

Yarnaby Is Not So Sweet And Cuddly

He's Much More Frightening Than Baba Chops

Last month's Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 teaser trailer showed fans a glimpse of the lower levels of the factory, which contain a huge mountain of discarded toys. The most mysterious part, though, was the appearance of the black sheep Baba Chops devouring a small DogDay toy. Fans naturally assumed that this was a sneak preview of the next chapter's villain.

The new trailer, though, shows that the actual big bad of Chapter 4 will be the not-so-cuddly Yarnaby, as predicted by The Game Theorists in a recent video picking apart the teaser. Reactions to the reveal veer between thinking the monster is cute and immediately regretting thinking so. As YouTuber ceejay4486 puts it, "Awww! It looks friendly- NEVERMIND! NEVERMIND!"

Although all the Poppy Playtime designs so far have been nostalgic and fairly cute, Yarnaby's derpy expression and colorful mane make him stand out from the rest, and I have no doubt that he will quickly become a fan favorite. I also love to see Mob Entertainment get better and better with each installment at creating an atmosphere of horror and discomfort.

And the title will soon be able to reach even more people with its horror, as Poppy Playtime will be available on consoles as of October 31. The second and third chapters are coming out on the Switch on Halloween, making Chapter 4 the first time all the consoles will be getting the new chapter simultaneously. The release window for Chapter 4 of Poppy Playtime is still sometime in January, and no specific date has been announced yet.
