The horror hit Poppy Playtime will officially receive its third chapter later this year, entitled Deep Sleep. The long-awaited Chapter 3 comes from Mob Entertainment, an independent multimedia company formed by brothers Zach and Seth Belanger in 2015. Though it first began as a popular YouTube channel, Mob eventually branched into game development, releasing the first chapter of Poppy Playtime in 2021 to massive success.

Since then, Mob Entertainment has released Poppy Playtime Chapter 2: Fly in a Web and the multiplayer Project: Playtime. Chapter 3 intends to pick up where Fly in a Web left off, with players stranded in Playtime Co.'s Playcare area. Once an on-site orphange, the location now sits abandoned like the rest of the factory, holding mysterious new Poppy Playtime monsters within it for fans to face. Mob Entertainment announced today that Chapter 3: Deep Sleep will officially release in December 2023, though no specific date has been given at this time.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 3: Release Window, Story, Setting, & Characters

Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 remains a mystery, but the horror series’ lore teases that a truly horrifying third installment is in the works.

Screen Rant conducted an email interview with Mob Entertainment CEO Zach Belanger and CCO Seth Belanger to discuss how the company has grown, what Poppy Playtime Chapter 3: Deep Sleep has in store for players, and plans for the future.

Screen Rant: How has what you envisioned the company’s role to be in the industry changed over the years? What kind of goals did you have for Mob Entertainment at the beginning versus now?

Zach Belanger: When we first started out, we spent the first few years creating animated fandom videos on YouTube. Those videos found an audience very rapidly, often generating millions of views. Sometimes even hundreds of millions of views. Now several years into building this company and an audience, there is an opportunity to grow our audience on a wide variety of platforms and in other mediums, like games.

Seth Belanger: And as the platforms for delivering our entertainment evolve to include music videos, short form and long form videos, games and other media, we remind ourselves to stay consistent with our vision of developing entertainment with well-crafted stories and characters that redefines the current convention.

From what we've seen so far, it seems like Chapter 3: Deep Sleep is largely set in the Playcare orphanage. What can fans expect from this environment?

Zach Belanger: This is going to be the biggest chapter to date in the Poppy Playtime universe by far. Players can expect more challenges in mini games, more characters that can either help or hinder their progress, and more scary moments that define the Poppy universe.

Seth Belanger: We’ll also be pushing the story forward. There are some unresolved questions from Chapters 1 & 2 that we address. Plus, there will be a few new questions popping up. This story has a long way to go. So, Chapter 3: Deep Sleep serves as a pivotal point in the overall direction of the story. And as always, we push ourselves and our art skill to make the game as visually cinematic as possible.

Can you reveal any new monsters players will contend with in Deep Sleep?

Seth Belanger: While we can’t reveal anything specific, that would spoil the surprise of the story, players will come across characters that are both fan favorites and new additions. They all come together to twist the story in a new direction. All I can say about the new characters is that some people are going to laugh, some people are going to scream and some people are going to cry.

5 Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 Theories Most Likely To Be True

There's been plenty of speculation surrounding Poppy Playtime Chapter 3, but some theories have significant evidence to back up their claims.

What do you think will surprise players most about Deep Sleep?

Seth Belanger: Deep Sleep is the largest chapter of the anthology. Players will instantly notice how our visual look and style in the Poppy universe keeps evolving. All of the environments are bigger, more polished, and more cinematic. We are continuing to perfect our craft, and I believe it will show in the finished product.

How scary would you say Deep Sleep is compared to previous Chapters? The teasers have made it look very dark.

Seth Belanger: All I can say is that there are definitely going to be some twists that will evoke an emotional response from the players. But the exciting thing is that the emotional response may be different for each player. Some may laugh, some may be frightened, some may cry. Who knows? But that’s the fun part of this story.

Other than Deep Sleep, is there anything else Mob Entertainment has in the pipeline that you can share?

Zach Belanger: Bringing Poppy Playtime to console has always been part of our vision, which we’re working hard to make a reality sometime this year.

Seth Belanger: Yes, the console version is in the works so stay tuned. There’s a lot of fun stuff coming.
