A new trailer for the Yorgos Lanthimos film Poor Things sees Willem Dafoe bringing Emma Stone to life through a Frankenstein-like experiment. Based on Alasdair Gray's novel of the same name, Poor Things sees Stone's Bella Baxter exploring the world after being given life by Dafoe's Dr. Godwin Baxter. The film also stars Mark Ruffalo as Duncan Wedderburn, a lawyer who Bella runs off with to explore the world.

Searchlight Pictures has released a new trailer for Poor Things, which shows Dafoe giving Stone life.

The trailer reveals more details about Poor Things, as Stone's Bella sets forth on an odyssey to find independence and freedom for herself. It also establishes important roles in the movie for additional cast Ramy Youssef and Jerrod Carmichael. A poster for Poor Things was also released alongside the trailer, which can be viewed below:

Everything We Know About Poor Things

Poor Things' director Lanthimos is best known for writing and directing the psychological horror film The Killing of a Sacred Deer, as well as the absurdist comedy The Lobster. Based on the off-key soundtrack and unique visuals in the trailer, it seems Poor Things will be embracing absurdism throughout Bella's story. Poor Things will also have a feminist message about women and freedom, something clearly showcased in the trailer.

The first trailer for Poor Things established the story would take inspiration from Mary Shelly's Frankenstein. Poor Things' newest trailer exemplifies this influence, especially with Bella trying to learn more about her place in the world beyond being Godwin's science experiment. With the film poised to tell a unique story inspired by Frankenstein, Poor Things will no doubt be taking some tropes from the classic horror story and putting a new twist on them.

Poor Things won't be the only time Stone and Dafoe collaborate with Lanthimos on a film project. Lanthimos is also working on an anthology film, AND, which will see more of Stone and Dafoe sharing the screen together. However, they will first do so in Poor Things when the film is released.
