Poker Face season 2, which has been met with positive reviews since its three-episode premiere on May 8, Buscemi plays a voice-only role as a trucker known only as "Good Buddy," who Charlie speaks with over the CB radio in her car.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Tost dives deeper into Good Buddy and his role in the larger Poker Face season 2, confirming that the character won't end up being a major part of any storyline moving forward. Instead, the showrunner explains, viewers should think of Good Buddy as more of a reassuring constant in Charlie's life. Check out his explanation below:
We kind of play him as he's a good companion for Charlie when she needs it. He's a good voice to have out there for Charlie to talk to, but I don't know how much to expect for him to intersect with the bigger plot or anything. It's more a little bit like he's part of the fabric of the show, like Norm's wife in Cheers. You never actually needed to see her, in a way, you wanted to imagine her in her world in the same way I'm just delighted by imagining Steve Buscemi as a consummate New Yorker, driving a big rig across America. I like that version of him, so that's kind of what we're going forward with that character.
What This Means For Poker Face Season 2
Good Buddy Won't Become A Series Regular (On Screen)
One of the main reasons why Poker Face season 1 and 2 have been so well-received is the show's unique structure. Each episode sees Charlie involved in a new mystery with an entirely new set of characters. The Poker Face season 2, episode 2, cast, for example, introduces Giancarlo Esposito, Katie Holmes, Kevin Corrigan, and Rhea Perlman, among others, in a story that revolves around Charlie investigating a funeral home after her friend goes missing from a film set.

Steve Buscemi's 10 Best Movies And TV Shows
Steve Buscemi has had a long and storied career as an actor, with some of the best movies and television shows ever made within his filmography.
Tost's comment seemingly confirms that Buscemi's character won't be showing up in the flesh for the rest of season 2. Instead, he will continue to serve as a sounding board for Charlie and her thoughts, in addition to helping to create the show's unique tone and atmosphere. It's always possible that this could change if Poker Face season 3 gets the green light, but Peacock has so far not addressed whether the Johnson series will be returning for another outing.
Our Take On Steve Buscemi's Character In Poker Face Season 2
Why Good Buddy Makes For A Strong Show Addition
Charlie has a unique outlook on the world in Poker Face, and Good Buddy is one way in which this outlook is made clear. The two characters' conversations don't often carry a lot of weight in of the larger plot, but they are a means of digging deeper into character, including what drives Charlie and her state of mind as she goes from place to place. The series could still succeed without Good Buddy, but he has ultimately been a worthwhile addition in the episodes released thus far.
Buscemi may not be visibile on screen, but his voice fits within the fabric of the show, and he makes Good Buddy feel like a real person.
After Poker Face season 2, episodes 1-3, there are certain to be tough times ahead for Charlie, and Good Buddy could end up being one of her few constant allies. Buscemi may not be visible on screen, but his voice fits within the fabric of the show, and he makes Good Buddy feel like a real person. It's unclear what mysteries are to come in Poker Face season 2, but audiences should evidently expect to continue to hear from Buscemi moving forward.
