An eagle-eyed original Pokémon TCG sets, while others are pulled from more recent sets. Thanks to using old Pokémon TCG art, many newcomers to Pokémon TCG Pocket are discovering some fantastic secrets for the first time.

Over on the Pokémon TCG Pocket subreddit, Weekly-Zucchini-8822 discovered that Saya Tsurata's artwork always has a Poké Ball hidden in them. Although Tsurata has been placing Poké Balls in art for years, the nature of Pokémon TCG Pocket means that many app s were discovering the Easter eggs for the first time.

Comments on Reddit ranged from surprise to appreciation, with mokuden saying "Awesome find!" and HisHonorTomDonson stating "Would literally never have noticed!"

Artist Saya Tsuruta Hides Poké Balls In TCGP Card Art

Poké Balls Appear In Cards Like Mew, Horsea, And Cloyster

Tsurata is a longtime Pokémon TCG artist, with 130 different Pokémon cards credited to her name. While her artwork appears on cards dating back as far as the Diamond & Pearl era of the card game, she's only been hiding Poké Balls in cards since the Sword and Shield era. Typically, Tsurata hides the Poké Balls in sparkles or bubbles built into the artwork, although she's also cleverly placed Poké Balls into tables, doorknobs or flowers as well.

The Glory of Team Rocket is the newest Pokémon TCG set in Japan, and several of its cards fetch high values from collectors all over the globe.

While Pokémon TCG Pocket sets haven't featured any new artwork of Tsurata's, that could change in the not-too-distant future. Given how many cards Tsurata has contributed artwork to, it wouldn't surprise me if she's tapped to do an Illustration Rare or Special Illustration Rare card soon.

To date, Tsurata's artwork has appeared on five different Pokémon TCG Pocket cards. You can find her art on the following cards:

  • Horsea (from Genetic Apex)
  • Koffing (from Genetic Apex)
  • Mew (from Mythical Island)
  • Cloyster (from Genetic Apex)
  • Morelull (from Shining Revelry)

Our Take: Easter Eggs Help Drive The Wonder Of Pokémon TCG Pocket

Easter Eggs Keep Players Looking At Old Pokémon Cards

mew

Personally, I love discovering Easter eggs in Pokémon TCG Pocket artwork. The app is perfect for highlighting the artwork of various cards and these kinds of Easter eggs encourage players to go back and look at older card art. It's impressive that Tsurata's Easter eggs have remained hidden in Pokémon TCG Pocket to this point and I hope that players keep making more new discoveries in older Pokémon TCG Pocket cards for years to come.
