Eevee is a popular and adorable Pokémon, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet need to add a new Eeveelution to update the current options available. Eevee has ed Pikachu in recent years as a main mascot for the Pokémon series, even making its debut as a starter option in Pokémon Let's Go! Eevee. Currently, Eevee has eight different evolutions players can obtain, but a new option hasn't been added since Generation Six's Pokémon X and Y, which released in 2013.

The announcement of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet came as a surprise to many, following the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus by just over a month. The new Generation Nine games are planned for release late in 2022 and will be the first true open-world experience in the Pokémon game series. While little information is known about the new region, and what special mechanics could be present, it could be the perfect setting for a new Eeveelution.

Currently, there are numerous types that would work well for a new Eeveelution in the Pokémon series. A Dragon-type evolution could offer players an adorable, fluffy dragon companion with an interesting and powerful move set. A Ghost-type could also be a good option, introducing an Eeveelution that can phase in and out of sight, similar to Hisuian Zorua in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. It is also possible a new type could be added in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, allowing Eevee to showcase the type's potential in a new evolution, similar to Sylveon in Pokémon X and Y.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet's New Eeveelution Could Be Like Type: Null

Type: Null stands in a sunny field in the Pokemon anime.

While a new single-type Eeveelution in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet would be a great addition to the region's Pokédex, the game could also experiment with an Eeveelution that changes types using Held items like Type: Null. The Eeveelution would keep the Normal-type as a baseline and then could become any type, depending on the item it is holding. These items could be scattered across Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's new Spain-inspired region, and require players to travel to every location on the map to unlock the Eeveelution's true potential. Additionally, there could be a special ability it learns when all the types have been obtained, giving it a big power boost in battle.

However, it is also possible Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Pokédex could focus on the addition of entirely new Pokémon, instead of expanding on past favorites from the series. This could be a frustrating letdown for those wanting to take a new Eevee companion on their adventure through the region. Hopefully, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will provide a nice balance of past favorite Pokémon species with new companions, giving players plenty of fresh and nostalgic choices for Generation Nine teams.
